Need recommendations for an 'Arabian Nights' style cs

Post by titus wong »

Travelling to the Dam soon with a hash-lovin' good friend who wants to know if there's a cs with an 'Arabian Nights' theme, preferably some place with lots of cushions and sofas to lounge around in. I thought of Kashmir Lounge initially but it's a bit out of our way. The Rokerijs are ok, but what he's principally looking for is someplace to comfortably crash in, preferably in a prone position. Thanks!

P.S. what do you guys think of the new Rokerij on Elandsgracht -- never been.

my first thought too was kashmir lounge and it is a shame it's a bit out of your way

from the centrum it would be a good hike but with a good route it would be worth it for what you would see on the journey, vondelpark is down that way and is a great place to visit and 'lounge around in'

thanks stoned. really want to go myself but the friend just broke his leg (hit by car) and is on a cane now so that's a consideration.

Tram 17 from the back of the palace takes you by the Kashmir end of Jan Pieter Heijestraat, tram 1 from the same place takes you by the Vondelpark end. I wouldn't advise the Rokerij on Elansgraght for obvious reasons.

Thanks DC. Perhaps I should broaden the parameters of my original query: anyone have any recs for a coffeeshop where my lame friend can rest his busted leg (i.e., keep it raised/be able to recline comfortably). Centrum location would be a plus.

Arabica Lounge next to Old Amsterdam may be Arabian enough for you.

I was just going to suggest it myself, only been in once I think I picked up some Santa Maria but the Arabica Special hash was really good quality for less than €10 a gram (I had asked about the Ice that was over €20 a gram but the guy suggested the other) the other cool thing is they give you a reciept of your purchases.

Didn't go inside but Lost In Amsterdam on Warmoestraat looked like a dark, Arabian type loungey spot to chill. I do remember seeing a group of people laying down on pillows in the front window hittin' a hookah so maybe that will suit your friend.

See? that's what I love about this site peeps... I remebered seeing that CS and thinking - hmmm, Moroccan/Arbian style chill out (behind the window / like a working window display) We should go in! But was so smashed I couldn't hold the thought - however, I read Titus' first post in this thread and thought "Yeah - I did see something that would have been perfect! But didn't get the name of the CS - Feck!"

Now FenixNYC posts this...

Lost In Amsterdam is a smoker-(un)friendly bar, not a coffeeshop. And they're located on Nieuwendijk, not Warmoestraat. I was in there once, sat at the bar, and proceeded to be ignored for a solid 10 minutes until I got the hint and left. It's a tourist trap with shitty service. Even with your situation I wouldn't recommend it.

true, had the same treatment with 5 of us sittin in the front window for like 10mins!! the guy behind the bar just sat on a stool the other end chatting to some1!!!

there is also a place afew doors up on the same side( towards canal )that has the same decor, but ALOT better service!!! give that a try!

Brown shopfront behind the heineken sign! lost is afew doors up on the left

Thanks gents, one and all. Plan on having a look-see in 'Lost in Ams' cs -- maybe that one guy is an anomaly or absent.

i recommend this place.

its only a bar/cafe but they let us smoke spliff inside, as we all sat near the front windows on the lovely comfey arabis style sofa bed booths...

just down road from loads of CS should you need to get some more...
