Canal Cruise

Post by corsicanbro »

Since there will be such a crowd in town Mid May, would anyone like to setup a cruise? The 420 cruise sounded cool, and I would love to do it. If we can't get enough, could someone tell me if singles can hook up with the local boat people who do it for tips? Oh, and what is a good tip for the ride? Thanks,

I would be interested. I have never been on a tour in all my trips there. And I have seven days from the 14th until the 21st. I could do it on anyone of those days. Hopefully we will have enough people around to make this happen!

See you there soon!

I'm interested. It sounds like you just go to Boom Chicago in Leidesplein and sign up on a sheet. Hestia organized the one that the 420 crowd went on. I think you can sign up as a single but imagine that they may want at least some minimum number of people for a trip but don't know. I'm in town from the 14th to the 23rd.

The St. Nicolaas Boat Club of Amsterdam is what I think you are looking for. I think the price is a suggested donation of at least 10 Euro per person.
You can not

I've tried...

I've never bee interested in a canal cruise until now. I didn't know anything like St Nicolaas existed or I may have done it already. They let you smoke on the boat, which is awesome. I'd be down for this if the weather is nice.

They really do have a great mission statement. I love how they don't pull any punches with the big rip-off companies like Meyers.

I'm thinking Saturday, May 16 around 1800 would be good. I could try and sign us up when I get to town Thursday, but we may be too late, not sure what the wait list looks like. Perhaps someone local or in town sooner could get us a reservation. Sunday would be good too for me.

Either of these sounds good to me. I get into town on the 14th as well. By the time I arrive I will have been awake for nearly 24 hours so I won't promise anything but if you have some idea of when you will go to Boom Chicago I could try to meet you there. I definitely want to do the cruise so I plan on going there sometime the first day to sign up anyway. I thought maybe when I did I would also put my forum name in parenthesis or put ACD or something next to my name. Maybe others could do the same that way even if we can't get organized beforehand we can know which cruise others have signed up for and maybe join them - just a thought.

From what I gather from the website, we are at the mercy of their schedule. I think what they have at Boom Chicago is a sheet with times detailing when they are holding tours with spaces under each time to fill your name in. I guess that the people who run the tours figure if someone goes to go to the trouble of going to Boom Chicago and signing up for a tour, then they must be serious enough about actually making it to the appointment. It seems like a two-way honor system with regard to both customers and the operators showing up.

I really wonder what the best way to coordinate something like this would be. Does anyone know how they did it on 4/20?

Hey D,
I was thinking along the same lines re the two-way honor system. I looked back at the thread that hestia made before 420. She was in town several days in advance of most of the others and already knew that she could fill the boat from what I could gather as some people were even offering to pass if there were too many. It sounds like she was able to basically sign up ten people but I don't know for sure. Also, it sounded like they don't plan too far in advance maybe just a couple of days.

It sounds like corsicanbro is going to sign up on the 14th. I intend to do the same and may even try to meet him or anyone else there to do so if we can fix a time (and I can drag my ass there after the long trip :) .) I suggest that when you sign up to put ACD after your name so that others that follow will know you are from the forum and can sign up for the same cruise. I know that I myself will not have easy internet access (none in the Abba and no laptop) so I may not be able to check this thread easily after the 13th. Just a thought.

Blueridge,

If corsicanbro and you are both planning on signing up on the 14th for some time during the weekend then I will aim to do the same thing. I'll be getting into town around 10:00 on that date so I should have no problem signing up. Intricatethekid is on my flight in as well, so I'll see if maybe him and his friend feel like going too.

d3lt4-9,
Cool. I was thinking of trying for Saturday at 1800 and if not that then Sunday at 1800. Like I said, I will put ACD after my name. Maybe you could do the same so if you get there before me I'll know which one to sign up for.

Sounds great. I originally planned to be at Grey Area at noon, but I think I will go check in after a couple stops on Haarlem Straat. I am staying down south, very close to Vondel Park. Looking at the map and if no major delays and I don't white out on the first spliff off the train, I hope to go check in and walk to Noon for a nooner, around noon that is. After that, maybe around 1330 I will head to Boom Chicago. Maybe be there around 1400. I will put my ACD name out there and I will try to reserve at least 5 spots unless more people indicate they want in. My first choice will be Saturday as close to 1800 as we can get. Second choice will be +/- 1 hour on Saturday. Third choice will be Sunday. After that I will probably check out the Rokerji (briefly) and head to Grey Area after that (hope to be there by 1600. D3 and blueridge try to hook up with me around 1400 at Boom if you like. If not, maybe we can catch up at Rokerji or Grey Area or the meet Friday night at Nes. I can't wait to meet you all there. Oh, I am 6' 240 lb dark hair, balding (probably wearing a hat), mustache and American and oh yeah I'll be smiling too.
