When I was there in 2007 I found the bar Soundgarden, it is a loud dirty bar, good place if you are into that. They also have a nice deck on the canal out back.Metalferrets wrote:are there any coffee shops that a metalhead would feel comfortable in. Listening to a bit of old skool Dr Dre, or Bone Thugs n Harmony are great to listen and mellow out to while listening to Hip Hop.
This thread made me laugh because I was actually LOOKING for shops that played Hip Hop but to mostly no avail, aside from Hunter's who played the good Doctor Andre's fine, fine music along with a little Tribe Called Quest.
The chillest music I encountered were the ambient, Moroccan tunes in Rokerij.

As much as I loved the shop and it's gear I didn't like the music they played in the 3 days I sat in for a smoke at all. Heavy, hard, loud rock is not my thing when I'm tryin' to get in my zone but maybe it'll work for you......
Before anything, get the daily dose of choke.....

It doesn't have to be Metal we understand it IS Amsterdam is lots of the shops are going to be playing pothead type chill music and that is fine as long as it isn't that stupid hip hop crap. We would rather be in a shop that plays house or something like that as opposed to hip hop. We'll experiment around and if a shop does have music we don't like it doesn't mean we will hate it and we will probably still buy from there as long as they have something we want which they probably do but I won't sit in there.
Old school rap is way different to me than new school hip hop and I can stand some old school rap but that new school hip hop has just got to go.
We would love some Moroccan tunes for sure. Were not close minded like lots of people think because we call ourselves Metalheads but in reality we do listen to a WIDE variety of music but the first we will claim is of course metal. My boyfriend and I can be pretty different in our music choice but for the most part we listen to the same stuff. I like techno and house shit more than he does but he does still like some. He likes Eric Clapton and me not so much. He likes Deftones and me I have to of smoked the right pot for it to not put me to sleep because it is that chill. I like t.A.T.u and him well hes not a chick so he doesn't like it.

When I find one that plays metal I'll let you know!Metalferrets wrote:are there any coffee shops that a metalhead would feel comfortable in. I have no problem being in a coffee shop that plays hip hop but would rather not be if possible.
We were wandering around the RLD looking for coffee last June - just prior to setting off for Graspop (euro metal festival) - as in an espresso to keep things going at 2:00am, and no-one was selling. We came across a pub still open and they agreed to make coffee if we also drank beer. No problem, says I. Then the barman put Rammstein - Live Aus Berlin on. Bonus. And he let us knock a bifftah together and smoke & drink 'til kicking out time.
Great end to an evening - damned if I can remember where we were tho'.

some 80s stuff has obvious drug influences even the "pop" sort of stuff I will listen to anything me for a while but agree that pounding techn has no place when smoking a j.Having said that Im no fan of gangster rap either but can find my way to chilling with some old school rap stuff like mobb deep, the mixes of dj rectangle are allways good chillin choons melodic with rappers that actually seem to feel what they are doing.Bit of the verve never hurt to chill with and SOME Hendrix for those of us born in the late 70s and just picked it up 2nd hand if you will.Love the streets too but they are more spoken word than rap with a bit of garage thrown in.Waaaay more besides like Bob marley (yes I know its stereotypical) Johnny Cash the aforementioned likes of massive attack.
From the way that you guys are describing the music situation over there ( I aint been in near 5 years) seems like they are using the unsettling music to get customers shifted fast? That or some non stoned budtender waiting on tha weekend?I dunno lol
