Same as the OP's

Hey all,
I generally agree with everyone's opinion regarding the subject. I also understand "some" of the views by the Adam city officials and citizens, those that want to manage "their" city.
- The RLD is the eyesore of Adam, undeniable fact, and in my opinion should be cleaned up. This area may have been quaint way back in the day, but now... go there and judge for yourself. Ask yourself the following question: Would you want a RLD in your city, much less your neighborhood? Maybe the RLD should be relocated in or near an industrial area, away from the general populace, maybe.
- I don't think the overall objective is the closure of the coffee shops as it is cleaning up a part of the city that should be cleaned. If I understand correctly, as explained to me by a bud tender, if a coffee shop is NOT in violation of the law, they will not lose their license. If this is accurate, the owners of the license may continue to operate just not in the RLD. There is the hassle of finding a suitable location in which to reestablish, but they still have their license, no? If I have been misinformed, please advise.
Because of my job in the 80's and 90's, I didn't experience what it was like to buy 30g's at one time, must have been nice. If this were still allowed, I wouldn't have to cross the border so often for my medicine. Oh well, such were the days...
Peace

The Yanks will legalize grass some time after the first successful "sun landing" by NASA, so that gives the Dutch time to plan for such events.

The US is a VERY conservative country and it will take quite some time, if ever, for cannabis to become legal there.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but anyone who takes an honest and critical look at this issue can not deny that US cannabis legalization is a long way off. (Those of us in the choir dig the preaching, BUT the sermon has to reach the masses.)
I guess I read too much norml for my own good eh? but to be completely honest, I've seen the issue of Cannabis regulation and taxation come up more and more on the US news channels. Governor Schwartenager asked for a frank and open discussion about the legalization issue, Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen has come forward giving legaliztion arguments in the House of Representatives. Not to Mention the numerous Ivy League university professors coming out in support of Legalization...

I see you're from the Northern wonderland of Canada, so I bet you don't have too high an opinion of the States... not that I do either... hence the move to Holland :-)
But in defense of my fellow Americans,

We may make the news with all the conservative christian Fanatics, but there is an incredibly diverse population in the US, with areas that are remarkably liberal, some even compare to Amsterdam (Look at San Francisco of NYC) We may not have legal prostitution (Unless you go to Las Vegas) or legal marijuana (unless you pay 50 bucks to a doctor for a medical prescription in California) but America isn't all just bible toting, gun slinging, rednecks...

It's all about the state governments. The Federal and state Governments in the US are constantly going at one another for power, and due to the constitution the States have Enormous governing power and force. If say California or Washington were to legalize and tax marijuana, the federal government couldn't just outright say no....there would have to be a legal case to challenge the law, and the issue would be brought before the Supreme court to decide...not a quick and easy process believe me..

I may be preaching to the choir on a Coffeeshop board full of stoners :-), but the Choir back home is up to 52% of the population... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/0 ... 98196.html

all I'm saying is that with segments on CNN, CBS, Fox news, and in the NY Times to name a few... the sermon is starting to reach the masses....

no disrespect to Americans, but it was the 'bible toting, gun slinging, rednecks' that got Bush re-elected. they are by far the USAs most verbal and influential populous.

USA will never legalize MJ in our lifetimes, but you can hope for more relaxed drug enforcement. if they would just focus the war on drugs less on MJ and more on the shit that is destroying their kids things would be fine.

MJ doesn't have to be legal to be acceptable, look at all the places it exists in harmony.

I currently reside there, but that might change soon.

First off, I don't necessarily have a low opinion of the US. Rather I have a problem with many US government policies, and imperialism, in general.

I know that many people in the US are open minded people. In the US, like any other country, there is a wide spectrum of opinion on any issue. Also, most do NOT tote guns (indeed, the majority of US folks are in favour of some gun controls. Too bad the NRA dictates policy).

However, I was speaking in generalities, and, as such, the US is a very conservative country, when compared to European countries, Canada, Australia, and so on. This does not mean that those countries don't have their share of right wing kooks, they certainly do.

I have been following and supporting the legalization issue for over 3 decades, so I have seen many hopeful times turn sour. Hence, I'll believe it, when I see it.

I am not sure if you are old enough to remember when California had cannabis decrim and Alaska's cannabis laws were very liberal, but I do. (We did not realize how good we had it).

I think that a few states might try to legalize, but it it'll take some time, if at all, at the federal level. As we have seen with medical MJ, the feds might fuck around. So, if your state legailized it, the local cops might not bust you, but the DEA or FBI could throw your ass in jail. Until, it gets legalized at the federal level, you will have potential legal problems.

Incremental state by state legalization could lead to federal legalization, who knows?
