love this place...how anyone can say the commercial zoo's like barneys etc can even match this place...but then this is more the older style of establishment that grown-ups prefer, not a neon lit disco for kids....long may it stay this way

Grey Area
Greenhouse United
Mellow Yellow

Man, how could you call 420 a "low-end" place?
Whatever you're smoking it clearly didn't come from here, I never knew there was such thing as a coffeeshop snob.

May I suggest that you temper your comments, elevatorman, as you're not going to win either any friends or any kudos by starting your little rant with comments like "you guys are ridiculous."
You don't mention in any of your

<four> posts how many times you've actually been to Amsterdam, which shops you've been to other than your magic four - and incidentally... you include Barneys and Greenhouse in the same breath as GA and MY???? You're obviously a man of taste.
De Kuil is certainly not one of our "out of the way shops", being perhaps the most easily accessible of any in Amsterdam, and if you were to spend any time at all on these forums, you'd also realise it's one of the most popular, but hey - you're welcome to this opinion. Perhaps your ID wasn't up to scratch the last time you tried to get service here? That may explain the sour milk taste you seem to have in your mouth.
Although this is just my opinion I feel strongly behind it...
Snap.
Oh, hang on though... At least I've taken the time to at least try to rationalise MY beliefs - and I've been going to this marvelous city for nearly 20 years now. GA has great weed, and very consistently too, so there I'd have to agree, but when you have been as many times as I have, you can often find even better at times.
Don't be a sad hater, elevatorman. If you work at it, you could actually become a useful contributor to this board, rather than just sniping from under that bridge...
Saucers of milk at 20 paces, then?

Sorry if I came across harsh.. I just was surprised that these two coffee shops were getting so much play, and i thought it to be unwaranted.
I have been to amsterdam 6 times now, and although I dont consider myslef a veteran going like 20 times, I definetly know myself around and have helped inform people in the past.
To Share more with you Here is my typical day in Amsterdam.
P.S-sorry for bashing other shops in that way, any shop should be recognized.
My typical day starts nice and early. I wake up around 8am and eat a nice english breakfast: eggs over easy, bacon, sausage, toast, tomatoes, fries/chips, and beans. Always with fresh squeezed oj and a capachino. I recommend Barneys breakfast bar in Jordann. They also let you smoke in there if thats to your likeing. Some other local Irish Brown cafes do a nice breakfast too and its cheaper.
After breakfast and for the rest of the day is alot of walking around. You will find that in Amsterdam half the fun is just walking seeing different parts of the city and just relaxing and enjoying life. Very peaceful with canals, cobblestone roads, and ancient buildings. Watch out for the bikes because they will run you over. There are 3 lanes on the roads to watch out for. Bike lane, car lane, and tram lane. Always pay attention.
For lunch I usually grab some fritas/chips which in amsterdam the fries/pototoes are incredible. Some places like burger bar near the grasshopper offer over 20 different types of sauces for your fries. I also grab some shroama or a nice falafal; so many different vendors selling on the streets you cant miss. Walk to Wok is also a good choice.
After lunch I stroll around the RLD to see the action going on. Also I usually go to a museum(Van Gogh), or take a canal ride. The rest of the time I spend bouncing in and out of different coffe shops. Some of my favorite are: Grey Area, Green House, Barney's, Bluebird, mellow Yellow and Rasta Baby(to end my trip). In the coffee shops they offer hash as well as marijuana. Both smokable or edable. If not a usual smoker I would ease my way into it. As in amsterdam they have pretty strong stuff. In the shops they have coffee, capachinos, freshly sqeezed juices, as well as my favorties: chomel(a chocolate drink either hot or cold),Looza fruit drinks, or good old fashion coca-cola.
Usually before dinner I return to my room for a little cat nap. At around 6-7 I go to dinner. If im in the mood for chineese I go to Nam Kee the street behind the RLD. For traditional dutch I love Moeders near the ANNE Frank house. For steak I enjoy Brassiere De Poorte, close to central. Never really tried Italian but there are a number of places as well. Saturninos a heard a good choice.
After dinner I usually take a stroll through the RLD to see whats happening. Then off to a few more coffee shops. If im going to a club I usually go to the melkweg, arena, or escape....
I retire to my room after grabbing some late night snacks: stroop waffels are my favorite as well as some other donoughts and cookies. Also some late night food from burger bar is always tasty. Its always good to keep some bottled water in your room and some light snacks as well
Usually after I get back to my room and pass out its around 3 in the morning.
5 hour sleeep to recharge and live and love it all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tried 420,for the 1st time on my last trip,& i loved it.
i had'nt been there more than a couple of minutes when green tambourine by the lemon pipers came on the sound system,a genuine 60's psycadelic classic,i bought a couple of grams of nyd & settled in for an hour.
the nyd is a lovely smoke with a beautiful crystal clear high.
all in all a really good c/s,cool sound, the girls are sweet,7 the bud is exellent.
i wished i had tried it on earlier visits.

I'm an NYCD connoisseur and it had the best NYCD of this trip. Smelled WONDERFUL, so good just smelling it gave me a slight buzz.
Wasn't impressed with their 420 Haze CC entry, though.

Do you have to buy some smoke to stay in this shop or can you smoke your own?

As with most all the coffeeshops in Amsterdam, it is always regarded as good form to actually buy something, CarlMarx - think of it like this... If you went to your local pub/club and produced a bottle of Vodka or a few cans of beer and sat down drinking them, what do you think the reaction from the management would be?
Now I'm not saying that the ONLY stuff you smoke in the coffeeshop HAS to be from that establishment, but a purchase there would ensure a better attitude from the staff, I'm sure... (Not that I've had anything but good vibes here!)
Besides, the weed here is very good!
Incidentally, imcalledstu, if you actually read what I wrote in response to that post, you may want to temper your fatuous reply, fella...

This place is HOT! Great weed, friendly atmosphere, the best music! Went back 3 times in 2 days - if you go to Amsterdam, MAKE THIS ONE THE FIRST COFFEESHOP YOU VISIT!! It sets the standard for the others...
