Cannabis cafe pass scheme falls apart
21 May 2009

A plan to make all the cannabis-selling cafes in Limburg province operate as members only clubs is on the verge of collapse, news agency ANP reports on Thursday.

Six of the eight local authority areas where the cafes, known as coffee shops, are located, have pulled out of the scheme, just over a week since it was formally launched.

The plan, which aims to stop tens of thousands of German, Belgian and French nationals buying cannabis over the border, would restrict admittance to the 30 cafes in the region to card carriers.
They would only be able to buy a maximum of three grammes of the drug a day.

But the mayors of Venlo, Roermond, Heerlen, Kerkrade, Venray and Weert are angry that the home affairs and justice ministries have refused to make extra police officers and money available to clamp down on street dealers. They fear people refused access to the cafes will buy from ordinary dealers, creating more of a nuisance for locals.

Maastricht mayor Gerd Leers who devised the scheme says he plans to meet officials in June in an effort to get a cash commitment.

Venlo and Roermond should not complain about ANYTHING that has to do with coffeeshops.
Let me tell you something about those two cities. they have both had a good number of shops until a few years back when Venlo decided to close down as many as they can and let the Roots and the Oase shop move to the german border, I mean everyone who has seen this shop knows whats going on. It is 400m behind the german border, and its probably the most-selling coffeeshop in the whole of holland. it doesnt matter when you go, there will always be a que of 10-15m.
in Roermond there is only one shop left, and that is the Skunk which is one reason why no new shops opened there in the last years, this fucking mafia makes sure no other shop opens so they are the only one to sell legaly.
with both these actions the cities Roermond and Venlo have created a big streat-dealing problem, you cant walk around in those cities as a youngster, they will always come at you and try to sell you drugs....Limburg is the way it is because they WANTED it so!
