First trip to DAM (23.08-31.08.09)

Post by Shandalar »

As i`m listening to the audio file from David Rodigan`s visit to Helsinki from last night i thought i`d put up some notes from my toughts before the trip.

Just booked flight Helsinki-Amsterdam + Amsterdam - Prague + Prague - Helsinki totalling 198EUR and accomodation, 7 nights for 153EUR at the Meeting Point hostell, so i`m good to go when time comes!

Been to prague for 3 times now, my favourite city in europe so far, will see if that changes soon...
This time decided to combine my longtime desire to visit `Dam on my regular summer week in Prague.

Will add some questions and pre-travel thougts of `Dam later...

Read this, it will help.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Few questions allready popped, that i couldn`t find clear answers to...

My flight arrives at schipol synday 22.45 local time, so what time the coffeeshops usually close, any chance of getting some smokes for the first night? Some coffeeshops listed opening hours on their website, but what is the general situation?

And do they have bongs videly available? Don`t fancy a joint if there is alternative...

coffeeshops must close at 1am at the latest, but some close earlier

but yes there will be a chance of a smoke on the first night
Shandalar wrote:Some coffeeshops listed opening hours on their website, but what is the general situation?
the general situation is that each coffeeshop is different, and some opening hours are easy to find on a website and some not

if you name some particular shops, i may know their hours, and others may know too, so try us
Shandalar wrote:And do they have bongs videly available?
again bongs are available at some shops and not at others, name the coffeeshop and someone may know

the Forum site has a Search facility which is very useful for digging out information

type 'bong' as the Search Query and click Search to see what comes up, i get 515 matches which is a bit much to wade through

so then try it again with 'bong' as the Search Query and the Forum list item set to 'Coffeeshop Reviews' and then click Search

this time there are 31 matches, so the Forum has some info on bongs in 31 coffeeshops

have a nice read

and by the way ...
this document is very important, it is about staying safe in the traffic and useful to know about when stoned/high/ripped/etc., so please read

thanks

Thanks a bunch for all the information so far!
I`m really bad with maps and other navigation, but managed to find out that there are actually quite many interesting coffeeshops in Warmoesstraat, where my hostel is located. So i`ll prolly just get a 20-sided dice and randomly roll what my first coffeeshop will be... (bit of an rpg fanatic)

My friend recommended the CS Ibiza for me, and in particular their Santa Maria strain. Very little information on that shop available, anyone know if it`s closed? And if so, where would be the best place to get that Santa Maria, sounded delicious when my friend described it.
I`ll be staying at the Hostel Meeting point, and thinking about bringing my laptop with me, to give a live report of my findings to you guys, so anyone stayed at Meeting Point and know if they have wireless net available? Their website didn`t have that info.

Also i`m planning to make a day trip out of Amsterdam, any recomendations on some cool places on a train reach, leave Dam early morning, and return late maybe?

haarlem is only 20 minutes by train but is a lovely day out

it has the same look-and-feel as amsterdam but has fewer people and generally lower weed prices

or you could go a little bit further and go to zandvoort for a day out at the beach

Likkle over a week, an`mi deyah!! 8)

Plans are well set, just booked tickets to a Collie Buddz + live band concert in Rotterdam, lookin forward to that! Would also have liked to go to an Axaj game with my original Jari Litmanen #10 jersey, but no games scheduled for my dates, what a bummer!

Anyways, time to start making careful notes about all the good things listed in those various excellent travelogues, so i know what´s hottest at the moment, big thanks to everybody for those! :D
