Thanks again for the kind words!! Carmona? Cool...never been, will absolutely put it on the MUST VISIT list...
We end our first night happier then we've been since, well, our LAST visit over here! I love that first night when you hit the bed thinking "it's only our first night, we have 5 more nights sleeping here!".

7:30am wake and bake to Silver Bubble and we're showered and in DESPERATE need of cafe so we're out the door. Too early for 137, we round the corner and head to (for the first time ever in 9 trips):
PICASSO for a cup of coffee and some product.

The budtender is TOO kind - when I ask if I can snap a pic of the menu he whips out a bucket of bud (white widow, I think pictured) and as he's pulling out a 2ND bucket of Picasso Special he spills it ALL over the counter! I'm feeling bad and all apologetic and stuff but he just laughs and I keep snapping pics! Needless to say, I got us a gram of that
PICASSO SPECIAL at 6 euro a gram. 6 euro a gram? On Haarlemmerstraat? And, believe it or not, it was damn good! Tasted like MUCH higher priced smoke...well cured, uplifting sativa dominated strain that made us ask again: 6 euro a gram?

The coffee had a good reputation from some previous posts but 137 had the bar up pretty high, I tell ya... The coffee WAS good, big-ass cups filled with some pretty strong cafe but 137 still held the gold.
We pack up and decide it's time to get the scooter! The wife found this great site renting scooters for short change (Gilex on Marxinstraat) and we walk the Prins to Rozengracht to Marxinstraat to pick up "Gil", our 50cc rocket!
The walk is a good 40 minutes or so away and the sun is shining and the weather is GORGEOUS! We pass a couple of unique shops but decide to keep walking - we have the scooter fevah! We're a few minutes away and the wife asks: "are you nervous?" Now, a little history: I haven't ridden a motorized 2 wheeler since I was, maybe, 12 or 13 years old and that was a MOPED, not a quick little scooter! License and credit card, that's all they ask. A 450 euro deposit and the dude watches me test ride around the parking lot out back a few times first alone - then with the wife on the buddy seat and off we go.
Now, y'all know Amsterdam (obviously) and as I pull out wobbly onto the bike path first and ease onto Marxinstraat second I feel bad-ass and fucking terrified at the same time! Bikes pedal around me as me and the wife quickly develop our balance. Braking was a bit more difficult - being used to bicycles I forgot that merely letting go of the accelerator would NOT stop the scooter! A quick jerk and tip of the seat up my ass and I learned rather quickly to apply the brake!!
We drive around, seriously, only where the roads looked forgiving! No hassles from the locals despite the bright yellow Kymco with "RENT ME" plastered on every visible space. I think that helped - the locals knew just how useless we were and gave us a wide berth!
We make our way (somehow) to the Spui and pull over at our perennial favorite hang out shop:
SOFTLAND

We pull "Gil" in and park right in front, locking the front wheel with the giganto chain and padlock. At this point we're starting to gain scooter confidence and figure get us some mellow herb and a cold soda and check our email.
The email is down but the woman behind the counter is REALLY nice and we notice that the menu has changed since the last 2 or 3 visits. To celebrate, we grab a gram of:
"Softland S.A.G.E." at 14 e/g

Pricey but REAL nice. Again, nice cure, fragrant smell, nice taste and pretty serious high. We smoked it later back in the room and opted for the leftover 137 hasj to smoke before getting back on "Gil".
We wrap up and climb on the scooter - this time STONED! Oddly enough, it calms me down enough and we "scoot" off and find ourselves near Centraal Station - BIG mistake! Jammed with people/scooters/bikes/tiny cars we don't know where the bike/scooter path ends and the road begins (or vice versa)! Panicky with the engine revving we shoot westward and head back towards the Jordaan area.
Let me tell you, there really is NO feeling like cruising down the Singel Canal on a beautiful day with the breeze blowing through our hair (yep, no helmets!) and a nice hasj buzz!
We wind up "home" and park Gil comfortably in a nice canal front spot under a tree and head in to rest our butts!
...coming up: Doors, 137, Popeye's and Dampkring for our first Icelator in
three trips!
