Jerry Garcia - Jerry Garcia (first album '72) A Deadhead is born (see avatar)
Neil Young = After The Gold Rush. Got Political (southern Man)

All early stuff I know but the last thirty years or so my life has been changed for me at regular intervals by the joys of raisin the kids. But I'm listening to all kinds of new stuff (for me) from all over the known and probably unknown world via the www now, and that is surely opening the gates. Rockon

spider we have very similar tastes for sure. Its interesting to see what music influenced different age groups from different parts of the globe

and i like everything here too and yes i am in the forum's older age bracket

the first Grateful Dead album has Morning Dew and that song and my first few smokes are entwined forever

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - I first heard this around a friend's house in 1975, being played by his older brother and it changed the kind of music I was listening to for the next ten years.

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood - Just gone through a nasty break-up with my first really serious girlfriend and this album helped me to keep my sanity. Saw Marillion live several times on this tour, it was also the first time I did magic mushrooms.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime - my current partner, who I've been with for twenty years were fighting over each other's musical tastes, but when we both heard this it was like wow! We've been going to gigs together since, and this album not only saved our relationship, it gave us common music to mosh to.

Pearl Jam - Ten - The start of grunge and a very special time. Defined a time in history, when we were living in London and going to gigs several times a week, hanging out with bands and generally ligging it large. Even Flow, Jeremy and Alive still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when I hear them to this day.

Turisas - The Varangian Way - The first of the Finnish folk rock/viking metal bands that we saw live, and the start of a whole new era of music, travelling to Northern Europe, drinking beer and rediscovering our shared Viking heritage - we're both from the East Coast of England. Obviously flutes, accordians & violins are not new, but putting them with heavy metal is something else!

It was cool to read that Turisas stopped off at Schipol airport on their way back to Finland, with 6 hours to spare. Their accordian player decided he had just enough time to pop into Dam for a quick session, failed to make the plane and then wasn't heard from for three months! Way to go, know exactly how he feels.

AntiChrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson - Holy shit, i was like 12 when this came out. the anger was unparalleled to me at the time. totally changed my perception of counterculture and my own place in the world. remember sneaking out of hte house and going to see him in downtown london on this tour. dodging church protestors and police. those early tours were the some craziest things i ever saw in my life.

After The Eulogy by Boysetsfire - nathan's vocals just make this for me, so raw at times, but then morose and crooning seconds later. positive, peaceful and violent.

Extinction by Nausea - no bullshit. things are bad, and they;re getting worse, and they'll never get better. that was nausea's message.

The Ultimate Escape by Tsunami Bomb - deffinately kick started my love and appreciation for female fronted punk bands.

Cattales Hi nice you share a taste, there was and is so much music to influence, but some is just right where you want it to be I think. I mean I have totally listened to Neil Young since Buffalo Springfield, I just love everything he writes, Love Politics growing up growing old even.Any way stay cool

2. Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent by Design

3. Gza - Liquid Swords

4. Oasis - Whats the Story

5. Wu Tang - 36 Chambers

It was hard to write a 5th as it could have been so many, Big L, Nas and Dr Dre come to mind, as my life i've mostly listened to Hip Hop music, Oasis was the first non hip hop album i bought
