New here and loving the forum/peeps! =)

Hey, all! I currently reside all the way across the pond in Upstate New York, USA. It's too far...believe me *sigh*.

I've been lurking for a little while and gathering as much info and insight on the 'Dam as I can. Everyone seems to be quite helpful and knowledgable...so I think I'm in good hands here ;)

I'm an occaisonal smoker, but not as often as I'd like as the gear around where I live is mostly garbage and I refuse to pay NY prices for Snickelfritz :P It's fairly disheartening at times.

My fiancé and I have booked our trip for August; I have a few questions I'll be asking, but I'll save them until it's a couple weeks before we leave. There may be an updated or recent trip report that someone posts that will answer some of them *shrug*. Until then, thanks for all the good work and I'll see you on the boards :D

Welcome to the forum.

When you have firm dates for your trip, get them to me.

I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Browse a few coffeeshop menus to prepare.

within the website that FlyByNite mentions there is a section entitled How not to get hit by a bike

imho for your own safety this is an absolutely essential document to read before you arrive in amsterdam as a first time visitor, the traffic comes at you from all around and you need eyes in the back of your head and is a challenge even when unstoned and a nightmare when stoned, so please read, thanks

the document is only 4 pages so it is easy to print and read at your leisure

i hope you have a great trip to amsterdam ...

Thanks for the welcoming, guys! Definitely loving this place...and probably spending too much time here now ;)

@ Fly and Stoned: Thanks for the recommendation. I've already read the Collins write-up (from your previous recommendations to newbies) and found it quite interesting and informative. Definitely worth the read and I'll most likely print it out and reread it on the flight over.

@ hippy: Dude, you're living my dream! *high five* Maybe someday I'll convince the wife-to-be that moving over is not only feasible but also a good idea. Not sure if she'd be willing to leave the friends and fam behind. Maybe when we retire *sigh*. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of work were you in and what did you end up doing after migrating to the Netherlands? Did you have trouble learning Dutch?

Oh, and Fly, our travel dates in August are the 14th through the 25th.

Thanks again for the welcome :D

hey hey man!
I am actually a student over here at the moment getting my Masters Degree. Before moving I was a call center supervisor for the geeksquad... so I daresay I've moved up in the world...

I have yet to learn dutch, but I've only been here 5 months... plus since everyone knows english and my program is in english.... it's not necessary...but i'm slowly learning it...

peace and have a good trip!
