Closure of coffee shops reduces drug crime
AD reports that the closure of coffee shops in towns and cities along the Dutch--Belgian border has led to a significant reduction in drug crime in the Netherlands but that "Flanders reaps rotten harvest in the wake of closure of Dutch coffee shops". The paper writes that the municipalities of Terneuzen, Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal have seen a sharp drop in the number of drug-related crimes after Europe's largest coffee shop (Checkpoint) was closed down but Belgian municipalities are seeing a marked increase in the number of marijuana plantations and drug dealers.
A spokesperson for Terneuzen, site of the mega coffee shop, said "closing down Checkpoint has significantly reduced drug-related problems; the drug tourists are staying in Belgium". The town's mayor told the paper "It was partially due to pressure from our Belgian neighbours that we tightened the regulations governing coffee shops. Checkpoint has been shut down and the consequences are all too apparent across the border."

Evidence please..........
Also, can Belgians only find their way to one coffeeshop?
Edit - I am really struggling to think what drug-related crimes could have been reduced. Flemish-parking, or littering?

presumably they are classing carrying a small personal bag of herbs across an imaginary border a crime?
I would like to read the source article but the link did not bring me to it and I am having trouble finding it.
So the article suggests crime is down in the Netherlands because of this?
Yes I want to hear evidence of this.
However if it is also suggesting an increase in crime in Flanders well this must illustrate the futility of their crusade against drug tourism.
Keep it in the open surely!!!
Transparency Honestly Realism bah governments speak not these words

To right, my girlfriend just brought up how much cannabis i consume i screamed in her face FUCK YOU gave her a slap and went on a night out which involed me fighting with bouncers, harrashing women and when their boyfriends came up to me. I stood on the table, flopped it out, mushroom slapped them a few times before carving ' SKUNK MADE ME DO THIS ' into their chests. In court next week...i tell them its this new skunk on the street which is 100000000000000000 times stronger than what the judge smoked at university, and thats what made me do it. Should get a few months in Rehab at worse....
I honsetly get sick of this shit now, if their was a definate link between cannabis and crime they would be parading it through the media. They have nothing, so wrap stats to fit their needs, whatever happened to honset journalism? Not motivated by agendas... Its not us i feel sorry for, its the sick people who could really benifit from cannabis. Shame that the governments would rather keep people sick and try to justify a flawed viewpoint. This type of shit is what can help governments keep medical cannabis illegal, fucking shocking.
I best go cook the miss's the meal i promised her, the rest of the flatmates are out on the piss, im sure they'll have a fun night of puking over bars and starting fights, the ' evil ' one is staying in. Ill tell you one thing though, the bitch better be on time, or shes getting the mother of all mushroom slaps.

Its the 'reefer madness' message that they tried to peddle in the twenties with those hilarious films, again and again. Re-branded, repackaged (its called schizophrenia now) same old bullshit.
If only the governments of this world would open their eyes and see cannabis would do a fantastic job of pacifying nations and legalising ALL drugs would simply delete nearly ALL crime. Leaving only ‘serious’ crimes, like the ones our pothead friends above perpetrate!

The 'crime' is smoking weed, so course this crime is gonna drop if coffeeshops are closed down. The war against herb is being won, slowly but surely.

Same shit the media used to say over here. Now we got much bigger problems and people are talking legalization.

Yes, too true!
this just in......In a related manner, the Dutch border town's new cure for left-handedness is to chop off everyone's left hand. Unfortunately, we are now seeing a spike in left-handedness in Belgium!
