It is hard to believe any story about a government sponsored clone.

However, G13 (whatever the origin) was being advertised well before American Beauty. I believe American Beauty was made in 1999 and this Seed Bank advert in ST was in 1987--a full dozen years before American Beauty movie. Maybe American Beauty in 1999 re-popularized G13 but it had already been floating around for over a decade. Incidentally, The Seed Bank catalog described G13 as a widely grown US indoor commercial plant.

I think it was late '80s that I first heard of G13. I was told back then that the 13 stood for number of 'legal' smokers that were allowed access to it. I'd never trust our government to grow anything worthwhile.

If anyone watched the Howard marks Video Diary that Sir Ian of Tokesville posted, you can hear ( and see) ben dronkers talk about G13.
