Hey everyone, I'll be heading over for what will be my 3rd trip of the year, and I'm still as excited as ever! This, unfortunately, will be my last trip for a good while, as it will soon be time for Popeye to be going back on the big blue wobbly, which ultimately means piss-testing. As I go back to college in November, and have been toking solidly for the last 3 years, I'll pretty much be giving myself the time from returning to the Dam until then to get myself clean - don't want to take any chances! One strike in this game, and you're out - nobody will touch you. No descrimination between drugs either, a pothead and a junkie are sneered at in the same lip-curling manner. A prime example being my first week in college, at 16. We were piss tested on the second day. I, of course was shitting myself, having been toking solidly since about 13-14, and had only given myself the minimum 28 days after reading the first thing I saw online. Impressionable age, and all that. Anyways, there was 2 in the class who were to 'go to the --- office.'

One of the guys turned out to be a casual herion smoker. Could never tell from looking at the guy - wasn't a junkie in the conventional sense, but he smoked kit! The other fella was apparently just over the passive (cannabis) limit that they allow. Both were sacked. This led to representatives coming into the class to give scary sounding lectures on how the industry is totally anti-drug, etc. Guess what drug was focused on more than anything? Yup. Pot. Not the killer, fuck your life up drug, which is in your system for a shorter period of time and would be a hell of a lot more dangerous to shipping than pot. Especially when you're at college, for fuck's sake!

So, with all that nonsense in mind, I hope to have one last 'Yeeha!' in the Dam before I go back to the shitty, hurried, needing a joint world that I would quite happily avoid until my lungs gave in were not for the career I want to follow. As this will be my last experience with tokers for a while, it would be cool to meet as many different ones as I can - makes sense, right? Lol. I'm planning on taking a Japanese approach to picture taking as well, and want to write the trip up, so I'll be sure to post it on here. I'll have a reporters notebook and bookie pen on me at all times!

I'm going with a group of guys from the 22nd-27th, but I think most of them, although potheads, are going to party, trip, etc. - I'm Connoisseuring! We're heading up to Rotterdam on the Sunday to see Feyenoord vs Sampdoria, but if anyone fancies meeting up for a few spliffs, then let me know - I'd like to think I'm quite a likeable fella, and I can smoke with the best of 'em!

Hey popeye thats very interesting what your sayin about piss testing , i was thinking about maybe studying at some kind of shipping/merchant college do you have to do piss tests even just when studying ? i can understand when at sea etc but studying !? seems a bit harsh ! but i bet you the same peeps that give you the test etc would more than likely go to a pub with you and get absolutely smashed ! and you are total right bout other drugs smack coke etc are out your system way quicker than the weed ! anyways rant over n enjoy your trip lad ! peace

Aye, unfortunately. When we're at college, we get sponsored by the company that sends us to sea, so we get a wage. The irony of it is, I've only ever been tested at college. Never at sea, and that's with numerous visits to Holland, Brazil & Panama! Eejits.

The job is worth giving up the weed for though, it pains me to say. Crackin wages, 6-8 months working a year, no tax, travelling, etc. Can retire at 50 no bother if you're sensible with the cash.

My wee barge in the Dam awaits!
