Is anyone familiar with this coffeeshop. I always go there every year to reminisce as much as anything. I get a pint of strongbow and sit upstairs by the window and people watch.
I was just reading the description of the shop on this site and it says all ashtrays have been removed and it is now a completely non-smoking shop. Can anybody confirm or deny this? What a crock of shit if it's true.
Cheers in advance.

I too have wasted many weeks of my life sat at that upstairs window (ever tried going up the spiral staircase?), drinking pints and chain smoking pure spliffs. I always loved this place for its ruff and ready feel, where almost anything would go.
Not only do they no longer sell weed but it is a NO SMOKING bar. NOT EVEN PURE SPLIFFS! The woman was quite rude when I question it in March. She said she simply did not have time to go around checking that everyone’s spliff was pure and she gestured to the empty bar...
You can still smoke at the outdoor seating.

Jonny1leg is spot on.
My frickin stoner brain! Ricks bar used to sell weed and booze for years and years, all under the same roof, even when others wouldn't dare...
That changed a short while back (before the smoking ban) and weed sales were moved next door. I never went into the cafe next door as I only really liked Ricks for the fact you could toot and drink at the same time, if you so wished.
Kadinskys bar still lets you smoke pure inside and you can drink.

will report back
as i too have spent many an hour at that upstairs window.
was a smashing place for late night beer/spliff combo. decent music, match of the day on saturdays (we asked nicely and the tall blonde lass behind the bar liked us), room to play cards n stuff. nice.
had a quality pidgin english/french (respectively) chat with a lad from marseille there new year 2007 and loads of other great memories.
noticed the smoking booth upstairs before but it has always been packed so...
flight in 11.5 hours so should stop by tonight
