Downtown Amsterdam coffeeshops may be moved instead of closed
June 29, 2009

The council of Amsterdam’s Centrum borough has decided that 26 coffeeshops scheduled to be closed as part of Project 1012 should be moved to other districts instead.

Accepting a motion by GroenLinks and VVD, the council suggests the coffeeshops can stay in business if they are allowed to move to other parts of the city. Normally the city’s rules governing coffeeshops — establishments where soft drugs can legally be bought and used — do not allow for such moves.

It sure is Kingdoc. It started out in a squatted bakery on Weesperzijde. The location had a fire and they then moved to the current location.

So what if do place upgrades or downsizes once in a while,As long as its business elsewhere it shouldnt be a issue.

Thats great news, because we all know that once a coffeeshop is gone, then it aint coming back, this seems to be the common sense option.... but in reality is it really gonna change anything????? 8) 8)

That would be great news. Anything that keeps the shops from closing is a positive step.

movement is better than closure...only difference i can see is stoners will use bikes, buses and trams a little more.....but watch out for the smartass that then tries the"its in a residential area/near a school "card...can't see it but you never know....personally i have no problem travelling a little further out ,at least you'll see a little more of the city.......but then what do i know?,i'm usually stoned hahahaha
