He probably just means a younger crowd as in he doesn't want to be stuck in a bar drinking with 50 year olds.

My suggestion would be to hit up the Leidseplein area or theres always the Nes Cafe: https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/NesCafe.html

Or, perhaps he wants to know which bars to avoid, as he might be a 50 year old and does not want to have to step over piles of puke, emitted by the 20-something-year old, college kid clientelle. :D

Belushi's on Warmoesstraat. Youngish crowd, lively, 2 for 1 drink offers and I think ya can't smoke outside on a back terrace.

Apart from Nes Cafe, the only other bar i really go to is Stone Cafe to watch a bit of the English Premiership while im out there... Also been to Suzie's (sp) facing Greenhouse Centruum for a couple beers and a smoke (in their smoking room) and to watch some footie :-)

Wormoestraat (sp) has a couple of lively places along it
