Panic Attacks And Whiteys...

Something that still worries me every time I visit the holy land. I'm a regular smoker - every day for many years (Skunk #1 hydro).
I do perfectly fine with my own strain at home, but as soon as I switch to something different, like when I visit the Dam, with one hit I get too high and close to having a whitey. Or panicky when I get on a tram high.
Does this happen to anyone else?
This time (my upcoming trip in September) I will try starting out with Thai or Jamaican and work up from there as an experiment.

Remember the three important things when getting high, location, company and dosage. Make sure you feel comfortable in a place where your smoking, your dose isnt too high and your with good people and you'll be fine. Just try to mellow out a bit man, it could be the change in weed, or it could be your waiting for the freak out to happen. Either way try to turn your mind off, appreciate the moment and the enjoy the high.

Honestly, if you are an everyday smoker of Skunk#1 hydro, I don't think Thai or Jamaican will do the job.
In my opinion (this is from first hand experience with Panic and Anxiety caused both by weed and not),
90 percent of a whitey is mental.
If you're thinking too hard about it heading in, you've got a defeatist attitude and will most definitely have a whitey.
Smoke whatever weed you want... Go slow... Make sure you eat before, during and after your smoke (low blood sugar is the cause of the light headed feeling that leads to a whitey)... and have friends around.
There's nothing worse for a whitey than a mind that is weak in approach.
A whitey is caused when your blood sugar takes a dip. This lightheaded feeling is accentuated by the influence of THC in the mind.
People tend to shorten their breath after a joint or bong hit to compensate for inflamed lungs.
Remember to breath deeply after a joint if you are chronic to whiteys.
Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip.

Thanks everyone - some very sound advice. I don't know why, after 6 visits, this still happens.
I wish I could find some variety to smoke here, but all I could probably find is street schwag.
I'll try to work on the mental preparedness this time and remember to take deep breaths. I'll be with my brother, so he'll be helpful to have around.
Thanks again, cheers.

My first day rule is always to take it slow.
Take a couple of puffs and hang out to see how hard it's going to hit.
By day two, you'll be primed and rockin'.
Follow the good advice above and remember to stay nourished.
I've never pulled a whitey and I've only seen it happen once. I was unfamiliar with the term until my first visit to Amsterdam, and traveling with my good friends from England. One of the dudes that was with us decided to pound (and by pound I mean take down in about 6 gulps) a liter of beer. We ducked into a coffeeshop (Rastababy, if I recall) to puff and homeboy was out the door within 10 minutes puking his guts out all over the street.
Just remember, weed is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.

Is that 26 just at the moment, or do you aim to have 26 different strains at all times?

I'm not a religious man, but I subscribe to this belief.

You currently have 20 or more different strains? Actual smokable buds? Or just seeds/clones? I LOVE to smoke, but methinks you've taken it beyond a hobby into rediculousness. If I hadn't spent some time reading here and had a feel for who you are, I'd be calling bullshit...instead I'm thinking I need to make a trip from NJ to baltimore...

Never happened to me in 7 years or so of smoking.
Occasionally my entire face has gone white, which looks horrible when contrasted with the bright red eyes! Although that doesn't happen much these days luckily.
I do get paranoid sometimes if I smoke too much, but it's all down to the setting really. Sat on some horrible park bench in England smoking rubbish bud = paranoia, chilled in a coffee shop in the Dam with a nice pint of Heineken and a joint, listening to some music and joking with friends is surely a scenario that it's very hard to become paranoid in?

This is true but with the medicine comes the antidote.
It is no co-incidence that coffeeshops along with selling weed and hash, also stock and sell vast amounts of Chocomel / Looza / Orangina et al. If it were not so, they would be carrying people out feet first all day long.
Dear OP, you need to hand a Coke (not a diet version ) or / and a Snickers bar, or something similar, and / or a 50cl bottle of water, laced with say a dozen sachets of sugar in your jacket pocket. A common mistake often made, is to quicky stand up and try to run out into the street apparently thinking that fresh air will help. This can very easily add to the onset of light headedness and then there are those 'spiral staircases' that often need to be negotiated; very tricky at the best of times and when heavily stoned or near whitey . . . ( Well I've seen some nasty 'faceplants' and near bicycle / tram / car / canal collisions).
So, far better to stay where you are if you feel you are heading to a 'whitey' , take a drink to re-raise your blood sugar level, get your breathing on track, take a break from the smoking, find something or somebody to concentrate on within your own space, drink more sugar and be patient , take a timecheck , you will stabilise fairly quickly.

Well said. Thank you for the tips. I believe that's always been my problem - going right from a long flight and little sugar to firing it up as soon as I arrive.
I'll definitely have a Coke and some candy at the ready. A friend of mine, just as you said, took a nose dive right in front of Dampkring after some Buddah's Sister. We had to take a cab to the hospital for stitches.
