Thanks everyone for the kind words so far. I'm looking forward to getting to know a lot of you, and I found other people's travelogues the very best resource in planning (and daydreaming) about this trip. We are already planning to go back in August or September. All I can say is that one week post move, I love my life as an expat. Now if only I can work it so that my Mr.'s next job is actually in the Netherlands...
Back to the report.
After picking three to take with us from Grey Area we went around the corner to Amnesia for some milkshakes. The interior of this store is one of my favorites. The decor was very urban with a predominantly black and purple color scheme. There were tables along a large padded banquet along one wall and stylish beverage and bud bars. The mango milkshake was a bit sweet, but my husband's mocha shake was very tasty. We borrowed a really nice glass bong with ground fittings. The bong was handed to us totally clean with a fresh screen and alcohol wipe. That's what I call great service.
Amnesia Haze (Barneys version pictured)
The bud-tender immediately recommended the Amnesia Haze (13e/g & 59e/5g). Initially reluctant because I had already smoked the strain from Barneys, my mind was quickly changed when he flashed the bin of bud at me. It looked and smelled like pure heaven. (I am such a tease that I neglected to photograph it for you. I hope you will forgive me.) Large, crystally, sweet-smelling nuggets. Consistent with the Barney's Amnesia Haze, this haze is very sensual and energetic. It has a great visual component, where everything becomes very crisp and bright. The aroma and flavor are both very light and give the impression of lemons, lavender, and flint.
Amnesia's Quasar
We expressed and interest in their 100% Sativa weeds and got a gram of the Quasar (from Barney's Farm, 17e/g & 76e/5g). I can see why everyone is talking about these pure sativa weeds, because they are beautiful, tasty, and deliver a great elevated lasting high. The Quasar was great. It smelled very fresh and herbal, with notes of rosemary and cloves. The high is accompanied by an instant head rush. Of the three pure sativa's I smoked this trip, this one had the strongest stone to it, with a certain pleasant bodily heaviness. Pricey, but for me it had the kind of high-quality lasting high that is worth the extra cash. It also has the ability to cut through a heavier stone and still deliver its own unique punch.
Amnesia's LSD
For take-home only, we decided to try another strong stoney indica weed. We opted for the LSD (13e/g & 59e/5g), which is a 100% pure indica. There is something about the appearance of this weed that reminds me of little bonsai trees. The fresh delicately curled leaves are a soft forest green with bright white crystals collecting on the stems and along the edges. LSD smells like violets and lemon candy to me. When you smoke it, it has a sweetness with a tart, powdery finish. It's fun to smoke and reminds me of smarties candies, pixie sticks, and those strange British violette pastilles that I bought at a gourmet market once. The stone is fantastic, very chill and relaxing. This would make the best anti-anxiety weed of all the strains that I smoked.
After that we swung by Homegrown Fantasy. Reports on that and the Grey Area weeds are still to come.

We swung by Homegrown Fantasy on our way back. The bags are pre-weighed there, but you see and smell the exact bag that you are buying, which makes up for the lack of scaling. The tender was friendly, and the menu seemed fun, with many of the strains I had heard about.
Amsterdam Evening
I was looking for a good Cheese, and theirs was the best I saw this trip (10e/.8g). I forgot to photograph it, but the nugs were compact and crystally. It had a heavy tangy cheese smell, spicy cheese flavor, and a nice mid-range thumping high. There was a greasy quality to the smoke and even the ash seemed oily. Definitely the best smelling cheese of the trip, and it seems like it would be a fun dinner-party weed. We also picked up a bag of the OG Kush Haze (.8g/10e). The bud smelled like grape candy to me and had a light sweet taste to the smoke. A nice uplifting high, which seemed moderate but I had smoked a lot at that point so its hard to imagine that much could cut through. It was very nice but not particularly special.
HGF OG Kush Haze
Then it was time to sample the Grey Area weeds. We had heard a lot about the Equatorial Pure Sativa (16.5e/g) and it lived up to the hype. Really pretty bud, it is reminiscent of orchids, with beautiful crystal covered buds gracing whisper-thin stems. The aroma, with sharp pine notes and a hint of moss reminds me of camping in a pine forest. It tasted fittingly like pine smoke with a quick short burn in the lungs. The energetic high was surprisingly loose and relaxed, and it hit with an instant head rush. On the scale of sativa's the Quasar was stronger and the Hawaiian Snow more optimistic and energetic. This 100% sativa was in between the two, with a nice balanced high that lasted well.
Grey Area Equatorial Pure Sativa
The Chocolope (13e/g) really does smell like chocolate, and tastes like eating slightly burn brownies with lemon-aide. The Mr. is an absolute devotee of anything chocolate, so this was a real winner for him. The buds are very compact nugs with brown hairs and a lot of visible crystal. The smell reminds me of ruby port and chocolate. It creates a deeply relaxing moderate stone that seemed to really distort time and created massive munchies. A really good weed for an evening of chilling at home with lots of snacks.
Grey Area Chocolope
The Cheisel (13 e/g) produced a fairly intense head stone. The Mr. said it made his "eyes slow down." Very relaxing weed with a strong couch-lock. It had the most intense aroma of the weeds that we sampled, with more sour lemon skunk then cheese. Specifically it smelled to me like skunk with notes of sour cream and lemon thyme. Considering all that smell, the taste was surprisingly light. The smoke was very heavy and creamy and produced more oily sensation than flavor. Occasionally there seemed to be a bit of a cheese aftertaste, but certainly less distinct than the two pure cheeses I tried. Stonier than pure cheese but paradoxically smellier and less tasty. Definitely worth another smoke.

We are heading back up to the 'Dam for a long weekend tomorrow night. Yay! I can't believe I thought I had the willpower to stay away until September...
What should I be sure to check out? Is there anything you would like me to look for or take pictures of?
Last trip was all about the pure sativa's and the haze's for me. This time I'm thinking about checking out the Kush's. (I've smoked a few over the years, but never really tried them head to head.)
Happy Smoking! Hopefully I'll be back with some good pics next week.

really enjoying the report and very nice quality pictures..
that og kush haze kinda looks a bit bunk.. maybe its just the dark picture.
im also noticing alot of shops in amsterdam are putting the OG in front of the strain... what makes them think its OG?? cause its a cali strain??

iv heard og stands for ocean grown or original gangster. its not even a real kush. good strain though.

i know what the OG stands for... original gangster.
but i was curious as to what allows a shop to add OG.. is it just a name thing.. or do they actually get the clone from cali and grow it in amsterdam. therefor it being the same og strain from cali.
cause whats stopping everyone from throwing OG in front of the name

There's nothing that's stopping anyone from naming any weed anything they want.
The OG Kush Haze was only ok. Other people love HGF, but it didn't really do much for me (did have the best cheese I found, but that alone doesn't seem to warrant a return trip).

Try the OG Kush from Greenplace 15E/g but well worth it! The Hill St. Special from Hill St. Blues was another great smoke. And the Lavender from Dampkring 2, old Pink Floyd's, deserves a special mention as well. Greenplace has a few kush strains and so does Club Media. Have a great trip!

great report and pics. to see whats hot right now, just check my logue. had much great stuff. good high weeds: heaven haze (basjoe) g13 haze(dampkring). for indicas hit the black widdow (katsu), hashheaven (dampkring) and the bas special (basjoe). checking out rookerij for white widdow could be worth it too. when I was there last week end the white widdow was superb and cheap for 7 or 8€ a gram.
edit: I was not too excited about any kush I saw in amsterdam. did not go to greenplace though.
