6th - 11th August - Amsterdam, Haarlem, Beverwijk, Alkmaar

Post by AmDamMan »

Hi all, I am off back to the motherland on 6th august for 5 nights. I've booked to stay at Hotel Cornerhouse, right round the corner from HGF just off Dam square. €30 pn for a single room with shared shower (En suite was €40 but decided to save €50 overall and put up with walking across the hall)

Normally when on Holiday I never make it out of Dam but, after living in Wijk ann Zee for 3 months, I'm planning to see a few of the old favourites.
I arrive 8am thursday morning and plan to spend Thursday and Friday in Dam.

Saturday morning venture to Haarlem for a few hours then just up the train line to Beverwijk. Hit Taffne and Splif for old times sake and jump on the bus to Wijk ann Zee. Spliff on the beach if weathers good and then off to cafe Westenwind, my old local. Few spliffs and beers in there hopefully see some of the old faces and then on the train back to Dam.

Sunday I want to try and get to Alkmaar for the afternoon/evening, a really nice place witha few good coffeeshops, plenty of shops and a miniature but well populated RLD if thats your thing (Althought i hear the mayor will soon be closing many of the windows)

Back in Dam late evening and then all day monday before the sadness of leaving again on Tuesday.

I would reallly reccomend if you're over on your trip for a few nights to get out and see some more of Holland. Amsterdam is Good, Holland is Great. The train service is easy to use and fairly cheap. You can plan your daytrips on www.9292ov.nl which now has an English option.

You have been posted on the August Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/profi ... le&u=20465

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

That is a very nice trip you have planned. I try to encourage people to get out of Amsterdam. Haarlem is a 20 minute no brainer out of town trip. Utrecht is maybe half an hour in the other direction and not at all hard to deal with.

Enjoy

FBN, Utrecht is one of the towns I wanted to get to while I was living over there but never made it, don't think I'll make it this time round either but it sounds like a nice town.
