Im heading to the dam late august and would like to try some hashes but since the only "hash" ive tried or had is soapbar, I have a couple of questions about hash.
How is it prepared to smoke? i.e soap you heat/burn it a bit to make it pliable and then crumbled into the joint etc.
Are there any easy to spot or tell tale signs too look for to judge a hash by eye?
Thier the only questions I can think of at the moment, if i think of more I'll add at a later date.

There are a number of different types of hash and a number of different ways to go about rolling them. Soap Bar shouldn't even be classed as hash!
If you get something soft dark and squidgy (Afghaan etc.) Most people roll it between the fingers into little sausages for the joint, although I have been told by some dutch stoners that its much better to take the time to pick it off in small chunks as it ensures a better burn.
For good pollen, skuff etc. you should be able to crumble it straight from the block into the spliff.
Ice Hash is extremely powerful and expensive but worth a try, it comes in different forms from powder to goo.
In general just experiment and you'll be fine, for good hash try Rifman selection at Dampkring or anything in the less touristey shops.
And Stay away from Soap Bar!!

yes, AmDam's advice is good. If the hash you've got is squidgy ('nepal', 'afghan', 'charas'), warm it between your hands for a minute then either break off small chunks and roll little sausages to put in with the baccy and/or weed.
If the hash you've got is harder and lighter in colour('maroc', 'pollen', 'caramello',) crumble it like you would soapbar, altho it'll require much less warming than soapbar and should crumble more readily into a finer powder.
you can also smoke hash in pipes/bongs- just bung a chunk in the bowl- and you'll find it smokes a lot smoother than soapbar, and actually tastes good, too!
skinning up with hash it definitely a different 'knack' than skinning up with weed. I find it burns easier in a spliff if I mix with weed & baccy.
