Pot & tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

Post by barksducks »

Hello fellow aficionados --

I'm an occasional, but experienced, pothead. I've often used it to help me sleep. Recently I came down with tinnitus, which is the fancy name for ringing in the ears. Usually, tinnitus is permanent. :( I've found some of the bud I enjoy (chiesel f'rinstance) makes the ringing worse and that's not helpful for sleep! Does anyone on this board *personally* suffer from tinnitus, and if so, are there any strains that calm it down and aid with sleep?

Keep in mind that cannabis is thought to lower blood sugars, a sign of this is a ringing in the ears, perhaps this is whats happening rather than your condition becoming worse.

I have suffered with ear problems on and off my entire life , and yes at times pot as made it unbearable.
Ears , nose and throat are all connected the smoke can cause swelling or irritation to all of the above .
Test eating some pot products and see what effect that has .
Also i would reccomend experimenting with a vaporiser or snow bongs ( bongs loaded with ice ( the temp of the smoke can worsen the irritation ).
Let us know .

I find that my hearing is heightened, when I get high.

So, after I am baked I turn down the TV. The tinnitus problem is likely more pronounced simply due to your more acute hearing when high.

Also, at night there are less background sounds so the tinnitus just seems more pronounced. You could get one of those "white noise" machines so the ringing is less pronounced.

My brother-in-law was a musician, and (from the gigs) he developed tinnitus, he notices it more at night and sometimes can not sleep because of it.

I have tinnitus but only in one ear.

I will pay more attention and get back to you but just thinking about I've haven't notice any effect except lots of indica strains will put me right to sleep.

The think to do is realize that it is not a real sound and put it out of your mind. Do not except it.

I remember reading this topic when it was posted a couple of weeks ago and thinking, "Geez...that would really suck." Well, guess what?? I HAVE IT NOW

I've been sick for the past 4-5 days and just a couple days ago I developed ringing in one ear. I'm going to try and take Naismith's advice and just put it out of my mind...but it's been quite difficult. I've actually been kind of concerned about it since yesterday and now am hoping and praying that it goes away by Friday. That would be devestating if a fuckin' cold ruined my very first trip to Amsterdam

Come on will power and mental ability!! *concentrating*

You can live with it ,I do.

The trick for me was when my Dr. say "it was not a real sound ".

Will talk more about if you will come to one of the meet & greet's on Sept 1st or the 5th.

Its been 10 yrs or so since mind started, all at once my left ear felt like it filled up with water and stop up, now its know big deal.

Buy the way my Dr. said two things cause it, a virus or a tumor.

lol,

Sadly, we're only around until August 19th :(

Thank you for the advice and input, though. Like I said, I'm really going to concentrate on putting it out of my mind and accepting that it's not a real sound.

I'm hoping I don't take a hit off some crazy sativa and then JUST focus on the ringing :?

Right now I'm smoking mj only rarely. But I got tinninitis and found out it was from the coffee I was drinking. WHen I switched to decaf, the ringing largely went away.
