Grasshopper has been bought by a Chinese consortium and is to be turned into a hotel (subject to passing of permits for change of use etc). Chinese groups have also within recent weeks taken over both the Old Quarter hotel (together with the Nickel and their other subsidiaries) and the Red Light Bar.

Closures of shops under the 1012 project are to be staggered, with the first round of closures 95% certain to happen at the end of next month. What is definite is that the first 5 to close (as coffeeshops anyhow) will be Freeland, Hunters (larger shop at warmoesstraat 24), Grasshopper, Hill Street B...
