Used them lay year and they are fine. I booked in advance so can't comment on h how long your wait will be. Another option is the 197 bus to the Leidseplein and then a few euros taxi to your hotel. It takes about 30 minutes which is about what a taxi will take.

Just about all the clubs will have a smoking room. And yes Escape still has one as well.
