Re: De Kuil (420 Cafe)

And the black cat is not a psycho, unlike the other one. I saw Bobby misbehave badly twice on our visit in April and May.

Re: Birdy (Haarlem)

I will have my chance to visit the highly recommended Birdy this very evening, 18.30'ish. If there are any ACD'ers in the area, please come say, Hey.

Re: Burger Bar

I am afraid Burger Bar might be getting a little too successful for their own good. It seems they're a little too used to their routine. Mrs. SH and I ate there twice on this last visit. I very respectfully asked they prepare our burgers without the usual condiments, specifying what we did want on t...

Re: De Kuil (420 Cafe)

The new cat is most assuredly not a replacement for the late great Max. He needs a good bit of job training and customer service study before he can get the position permanently.

Re: De Kuil (420 Cafe)

Max, the cat, has to be getting really old. He's been there as long as I can remember, at least 13 or 14 years. He's quite friendly when everything is on his terms. He has to be one of the most photographed cats in the world outside a zoo.

Re: Nes Cafe

Not being a drinker is most certainly not a good reason to miss 't Nes. Apart from having an extensive selection of non-alcoholic drinks, it has an extensive collection of really cool people on both sides of the bar.

Re: Dampkring 2 (formerly Pink Floyd)

I may be dating myself, but they used to sing a song asserting "it's not what you say, it's the way that you say it." I understand the reasoning, sort of, for the hat ban, but I really don't want some officious little DB ordering me so to do. I'll buy dope from a Rokerij the night they're ...

Re: All coffeeshops in Haarlem searched at the same time

On the spring trip we went by Abraxas one morning to have a joint and an OJ. The place was closed and there were cops inside and out. We obviously didn't stop. Later we went by again, and we talked with the girl on the counter and the BT. Both agreed the cops were fairly decent about the whole proce...

Re: Accommodation Places for Smokers in Apeldoom or Arnhem..

We used to smoke in our room at the Hotel Berg en Bos. We were pretty discreet about it, and we were in our 50's looking pretty straight, but nobody said a word. They served a great breakfast buffet.

'T Bunkertje is down by the tracks. Had good luck there a number of times.

Bikely.com is a very useful site for bike trip planning. The site has multiple trips already mapped out, including Amsterdam and the surrounding areas.

Mushroom Kits

What's in the big box they want to sell you as a mushroom growing kit? Are the mushroom spores separate from the growing medium, and instructions? If so, they should make for a pretty small bottle or envelope, huh? Does anyone know?

I became aware of the cafe next to the 420 not too long after our 2010 trip. We tried it this year and enjoyed it quite a lot.

Re: Your 3 Favourite Coffeeshops

I guess it can be pretty well inferred who is an American, but why their votes are to be eliminated in determining the "people's choice" remains a mystery. If only there were more demographics available, a more interesting analysis might be made by analyzing the age of the respondents. We ...

Re: train to Germany

We booked a package trip to include Amsterdam and Paris, in that order, at a great price. At the last minute the company switched things about and we arrived in Paris without vital supplies. I put Mrs. SH in the hotel and headed for the Gare du Nord for the train to Amsterdam. I got to Mokum and ama...
