A girl working in a coffeeshop (think it was Kadinsky but not 100% sure as it was years ago) once told me that coffeeshops didn't have comfortable seats to specifically stop the customers vegging out. I guess they think customers nodding off is bad for business.

Lion King wrote:Got the 4 * Moevenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre (GBP £49/night).
Is that price including the taxes/fees? Or do they have to be added to that price?

For a 4 star hotel in the centrum zone, £42-£43 should get you a winning bid. If not, just increase your bid by £1 per day. You'll have to pay about another £5 in taxes and charges (including city tax) so it will total about £48 per night. It's highly likely that you will get the nh Amsterdam Centre...

That's one thing that's always bugged me about a significant number of coffeeshops, their tendancy to play cheesy rock and trash dance. Both types of music aren't very conducive to a mellow afternoon or evening's smoke. Chillout music, of the Cafe Del Mar variety, would be a much better soundtrack t...

might he have been sleepwalking? either way thats some crazy shit, how did he get in your room? That was one of the mysteries of the whole thing, the door was shut (although not locked) so without a key there was no way in from the outside. We reckon he was probably also a guest at the hotel and ha...

Me and my friend were staying at Hotel Greenwich a few years back. We were having our last joint of the evening at about 2am in our room. We rolled a particularly potent Menali Cream J and after we smoked it, I was just drifting off mashedly when out of the corner of my eye I noticed some bloke stan...

You can get a double room in a 4* hotel for about £48 per night if you use the Name Your Own Price bidding facility at priceline.co.uk. That's the same price, or even cheaper, as booking a 1* or 2* hotel room directly.

March is an excellent time to visit Amsterdam. The coldest months have passed, although always be prepared for rain, and the weather may even be spring-like if you're lucky. The best thing about March is Amsterdam is pretty empty of tourists so you always get a seat in coffeeshops and restaurants an...

Kaasland at the corner of Harlemmerdijk and Korte Prinsengracht has all the cheese that you could ever want. They have a quite extraordinary range of different cheeses. Just follow your nose, you can smell the shop from 50 yards away.

Hans Brinker seems to attract a lot of school parties and I have read that there is sometimes trouble there with kids running up and down the corridors at night. So I'm guessing that if you're a light sleeper easily disturbed by noise it's not the place for you. But, it seems like it's a reasonably ...

A thumbs up for La Place from me. I've been stopping by there, whilst in Amsterdam, for years. It's great for lunch and if you're an early dinner eater (La Place shuts at 5.30pm. 9pm on Thurdays) it's good for you're evening meal too. They do fresh salads, sandwiches, pasta, a bakery, fresh fruit sa...

Hello Everybody

I've been a long-term lurker here and thought it was time I introduced myself. I'm in my late thirties, from the east London/Essex area and have been a regular Amsterdam visitor for the last fifteen years, making at least two trips a year. Most of my trips were with my ex-girlfriend but I've also be...
