Re: we've been banned....official.

That's why they want to take the case to the European Courts. It's on very shady ground concerning banning people based on where they reside but at the same time concerning an activity that is illegal. Just no way of knowing which way it could go.

Re: we've been banned....official.

The legal battle ain't over yet. It will be the very worst case scenario if we are banned by the year's end. I can see the coffeeshop owners/anti-ban lobby tying up the case in legal wrangles for months ahead. For this year going into next I reckon we're ok, just no way of knowing after that.

Re: we've been banned....official.

Unless the appeal is successful, it looks like us tourists might just be banned from coffeeshops by the end of the year. Get your trips booked now folks, it could be your last. :(

Re: A glimpse into the past

It's called 'Amsterdam By Night' and was put of Channel 4's cannabis night in the mid 90's. There have been threads about it a couple of times here on ACD. The presenter is a stand up comedian, quite a funny guy. The coffeeshop largely featured in the first half is Lucky Mothers. It use to be on Kei...

Re: Burger Bar

@ kingdoc, do you mind telling me where "blue bridge" is and where the location of the Burger bar is around there ? Thankyou. The Blauwbrug (Blue Bridge) spans the Amstel between Amstelstraat and Waterlooplein, where the Stopera is. Burger Bar isn't really near the Blauwbrug, although it ...

Great report so far mate. Warm's the heart to know that you're having a good time after having a bit of a hard time. This bit really got me: Injury/Surgery. Each injury made forced me to sit there and just dream of the dam, consumed and sleeping with thoughts of cobblestone, coffeeshops, and canals....

+1 on that recommendation. :D
I've eaten there many times. Their uitsmijters and appelgebak are fantastic too.

Re: Fentimans - Botanically Brewed Beverages

Yeah, I know what you're saying. It's like comparing Asda's own brand sparkling Cava to Dom Perignon Champagne.
I know that Amnesia use to do more quality soft drinks but I think they just have the generic Coke/7up/Schweppes/Spa drinks now. :(

Re: Fentimans - Botanically Brewed Beverages

Fentimans have been around for quite a few years and you're right in saying how great the Traditional Lemonade is.
Never seen them in Amsterdam but I'm partial to a bitter lemon when in a coffeeshop. You usually get given a Schweppes one.

Re: Sincere apologies to Gapie. & possibly trip report later

I use to always visit Amsterdam with my ex-girlfriend. Probably the best holidays I've ever been on. Getting stoned, eating nice food and wandering around the shops, she loved the shops and markets there. I mostly go solo now, a few trips with mates, and I still love Amsterdam more than I can expres...

Re: What is the tolerance for being high in public AMS?

Walk up to a policeman smoking a joint and they will confiscate your stash and give you a stern telling off. No they wont, they'll just tell you to put it out and smoke it in a coffeeshop. I saw a couple of Scottish lads have there joints taken off them by the police outside Homegrown Fantasy a few...

Re: What is the tolerance for being high in public AMS?

You won't get turned away from anywhere for being stoned. As to what the locals will think of you? Mainly they'll be indifferent. Smoking cannabis is as normal to Amsterdammers as drinking alcohol. If you go up to one waving a joint around in the air then they will think you're an idiot. Same as the...

Re: Time Out Amsterdam - A guide to everything Amsterdam

They use to publish a Weekly TimeOut Amsterdam 15-20 years ago but then it stopped. It must have started again in 2010. Amsterdam was in need of a good regular English language listings magazine so it's good that it's back. I think the TimeOut Amsterdam guide book is the best one. They use to publis...
