Re: Oliebollen (Dutch Doughnuts)

My mate got hooked on Oliebollen on our Autumn 2009 trip. He'd only been to Amsterdam in the summer before and had never even heard of them. We were on our way to de Pijp so I took him to the stall on Marie Heinekenplein and we had one each to eat as we were walking along. My mate was immediately in...

Re: NH Amsterdam Centre

Are you sure that you're not getting the nh Amsterdam Centre with the nh City Centre? All the the rooms at the Amsterdam Centre have modern decor with good facilities and I didn't think there were any bad rooms.

Hopefully someone will help out (obviously not Marco) and pop into one of the shops for you. Sorry you are having a bad day Boner, but don't take it out on me. I am afraid its not a ten minute task for me to go downtown to a DVD store during the work week, when the forecast calls for daily deluges....

I'd be amazed if Dutch productions came with English subtitles. I know that they often come with their own Dutch subs though. Check out bol.com, it's like the Amazon for NL. Probably has the best info. If I have time, I will check for you when in town. Thanks mate. I have quite a few Dutch films on...

Could you do me an Amsterdam favour?

I have an unusual request and favour to ask of anybody who may currently be in Amsterdam or anywhere in The Netherlands for that matter. I want to buy the DVD of the Dutch children's films Het Paard Van Sinterklaas? and its sequel Waar Is Het Paard Van Sinterklaas? for my niece and nephew for Christ...

Having a quiet smoke whilst walking along a deserted sidestreet or sitting on a bench on Reguliersgracht minding your own business having a discrete puff is fine. Bowling down Kalverstraat on a Saturday afternoon waving a huge cone about, isn't. I don't think the locals really care that you're smoki...

Hi mate and welcome. :D
Third trip in two years, eh? I know where you're coming from After my first trip back in '94 I was desperate to get back to Amsterdam as soon as possible. Sixteen years later and I'm on 50+ visits. I never tire of the place.

Shiva at Reguliersdwarsstraat 72 (just off Vijzelstraat on the Rembradtplein side) is very good. Nice premises and all the favourites that you would find in a British Indian restaurant. If I lived in Amsterdam it would be my regular. It helps that it's right in the middle of town too. www.shivaresta...
