I'm sure that i'm not the only one who visits Eichholtz on Leidesstraat at least once on a trip to the dam. It usually means having to go straight back to the hotel afterwards and deposit a couple of plastic carrier bags full to the brim with goodies! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/173/432382866_3a4...

Re: What else besides coffee shops?

We visit castles. We go to the Kroller-Muller in the Hoge Voluwe (sic?) near Arnhem. We've been to a number of ancient burial sites called Hunnebedden all over the North and West of NL. I make a point of going to the Kroller-Muller every trip, not only do they have the best selection of Van Goghs i...

Does the shop have the possibility of relocating to another premises nearby, this would seem fair as they have a license at present and are being forced out of business by a new law, just wondered

A few years ago i booked in to stay in an NH hotel in central Amsterdam. I arrived very late however, maybe 9pm and the young guy on reception spent at least 20 minutes chatting with his work mates (and laughing periodically) to find me a room, even though i had reserved a room on the internet. At l...

The best Japanese food in Amsterdam is probably to be found at the Yamazato restaurant which is in the Okura Hotel, i think it has a Michelin star but is extremely pricey. Nearby is another good restaurant called Kaiko, i haven't yet eaten in either of these. For some strange reason i developed an e...

I think all the NH Hotels in Amsterdam are pretty much the same price wise (except the Kraz obviously !), my girlfriend works for NH (so I get the rooms for €35 a night !) - and I thought she said the Carlton on Rembrandtsplein was cheaper but it's still at least €105 a night from just having a qui...

The only areas I have genuinely heard are best to stay away from is the metro stations at night, but in 10+ trips i've never even set foot on a metro train. Ha ha, same here. Whenever i have been in Amsterdam i can never understand why they would even want to build a metro when it is such a lovely ...

I find a simple rule of thumb when travelling abroad is, if i can see any Japanese tourists, then i know i'm safe. And there are plenty of groups of tourists from all over the world taking in the sights in the RLD until late in the evening. As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, if you ventur...

Bonjour everyone

Hello all, I'm from South London originally but now live in Paris. I have had so many wonderful trips to Amsterdam over the past 20 years but haven't been for about 5 years. Unfortunately i don't think i'll be there anytime soon either, personal financial Armageddon BUT i am there in spirit whenever...
