Re: The Wire

Come here...that show doesnt even come close...bring armor and bullets :| You know I went to Baltimore when I was a kid. Thought it was a really nice town. Didn't see much beyond the City Center development by the water. Harbor Bay or point I think it was called. When I saw The Wire couldn't believ...

Re: Doctor Who

Tom Baker for me, an eccentric big character with an alien quality and a lot of strongly written episode. Many of the actors, like David Tennant, cite Patrick Troughton as their favourite and I would like to see more of his episodes. And like a lot of Dr Who fans, it would be great to see Paul McGan...

Re: Belgium

Last time I got the fast train Amsterdam - Brussels (February) - they made a big show of parading a sniffer dog and so on along the passengers lined up for the train , before it came in. Got the feeling it was done half heartedly. I got that feeling after encountering cops on the Maastricht-Brussel...

Re: Maybe a glimer of hope(weitpass)

I doubt if revenue consideration will play any role in canning the Weitpas. Pressure from Mayors and police chiefs, outside of a few border towns, who neither want or believe in this scheme will be more of factor.

Re: No one wants the wietpas!

Ivo Opstelten is being a pain over this issue. He claims the Wiepas is a great success because the number of foreign tourists visiting southern coffeshops has dropped (of course they've dropped they've been banned) but will not accept the growing evidence from the police and mayoral views that this ...

Re: Alternative for Amsterdam???

Some interesting suggestions but nowhere outside of Europe is much of an alternative for me. I am not going to spend 10 hours on a plane to Asia or the Americas to risk being stiffed by some chancer or busted by bent cops. Even in a liberal US state I would be concerned that Sgt tight arse will nick...

Re: Young cannabis smokers run risk of lower IQ, report clai

Another thing i wanted to mention which is probably the most important is that correlation does not imply or mean causation. Just because there was an association found between weed smoking in teens and receiving fewer points on a IQ score does not mean that one caused the other. Exactly the lifest...

Re: Dutch General Elections - Sept. 12, 2012

While I really appreciate the SP's CS policy, the last thing Europe needs is more socialism.[/quote] In the spirit of democratic debate, I didn't think this should go unchallenged. So I'm challenging it on two counts: first, not sure western Europe has actually seen much socialism these last few ye...

Re: Dutch General Elections - Sept. 12, 2012

Can any Dutch politics experts help out-

On those results would D66 and Labour form a coalition CDU and/or VVD in order to pass an EU approved budget.

Or would D66 and labour form a left coalition with the SP?

If the worse comes to the worse I'm sure you will meet plenty of Dutch people on your stay who will nip in a coffeeshop on your behalf.

http://www.vvdamsterdam.nl/danielvanderree/article/3354/ does that mean not in Amsterdam??^^^ Yes even the VVD in Amsterdam does not want the Wietpas- April 29, 2012 - On 1 May 2012 the wietpas introduced in the three southern provinces. Re: So the Weed pass thing? and your thoughts?

Picked up a rumour , that if the Wietpass comes in (let us hope not) - there will be a 3 day tourist option for Amsterdam. Better than a poke in the eye with a dirty stick , as they say. Just a guess but that sounds like Amsterdam council trying to circumnavigate the law by signing you down as a te...
