Re: Stone's Café

Against all odds, it has reopened. I only looked in from outside but it seems to be pretty much the same layout as before, minus the pool table.

Re: Assorted Memories Of A Different World

Thanks man. Yeah I wonder what the percentage is of Grasshopper being people first cs in the years it was open. It was just there, like a big green beacon, no map needed. Fairly high I'd imagine. For every naive newbie it had a strong magnetic pull as soon as you exited Centraal and hit the Damrak....

Re: Assorted Memories Of A Different World

Also funny that we too ended up in the Doors a lot on our first trip. As well as the Blues Brothers on Nieuwendijk, that was great fun in there - back when shops could sell weed and booze, and then you'd go for a piss and see the mural from the toilets in the movie recreated in the bogs  Tr...

Re: Assorted Memories Of A Different World

Oh man. I've only read your first trip (I'll read the rest tomorrow, need to hit the hay soon) but man did that bring back some memories. My first trip was mid to late 90s too, and like you I was young and naive as hell. So Grasshopper was also my first coffeeshop and yeah they did have a light-up b...

Re: The Tribe

Yeah it's still there, still pot friendly, and still shows the footie  . It's a funny little place really, always reminds me of a cinema the way they have the chairs set up for the TV. But if that's yer thang, so be it :-D

Re: The Plug (formerly Utopia)

Can't comment on the menu itself as I didn't look at anything, but as for the refurbishment.......such a shame. It's lost that special little something that made it unique and it's now just A.N. Other coffeeshop. Sad really. It's like going down to your local family-run village pub to discover it's ...

Re: Stone's Café

A twist in the tale - they have now opened a new venue just across the street instead. Not been inside but from passing it appears they have recreated the same vibe, only even louder. If that's possible. Anyhoo, at least they're still kicking against the pricks. Good on 'em  8)

Re: newbie - as usual, with questions

Most coffeeshops also sell pre-rolled joints if that's your preferred method of smoking, but I wouldnt really recommend it as you have no real idea of what/how much is in each joint.
