Nieuwendijk and Kalverstraat would be a good bet for High Street stores like H&M etc, both just off Dam Square. Haarlemmerstraat/dijk is good for smaller boutique-y shops.

If you go the last week of November there will be ALOT of people there, as the Cannabis Cup will be happening Nov. 23rd-27th and Amsterdam (and the coffeeshops) are filled with people. You may see this as a good oportunity, if not you might want to plan for early to mid november (we will be in town...

I just use ATM's, but for currency, try Co-op Travel in the UK, or a place by the Swiss Hotel on/near Damrak somewhere...we never did find it. Both well recommended for good rates of exchange.

Get it booked NOW. You might struggle to get a room anywhere at this late date :!: Amsterdam is really busy in the summertime.
