Possible solo trip July

Post by DrBlueCheese »

Hi, all.

Not been on here forma good while and am planning a trip to Dam in July - have been many times but always with friends. As the usual tribe I come with are looking unlikely this time around - it is possibly going to be a solo trip.

Even having been to Dam many times and knowing my way around very well - it still seems a bit daunting to be possibly coming on my own.

Any advice for solo trips to Dam? I know lots of people must do it.

TIA.

hey doc

i have visited 35-40 times 20 with friends and the rest solo

i can honestly say i prefer solo trips as you only have to please yourself(not literally) and dont have to do shit that you have seen 100 times-red light, van gogh, anne frank huis

all great to see but as i say on your own you go where you want and take as long as you want and meet some good peeps on the way

I've been 18 and counting - all with friends.

Not adverse to pleasing myself! 🤣

Most of the time would be spent smoking - we all know there's nothing wrong with that. Main concern is I think I'd get bored fairly quick just smoking on my own - not always a guarantee you'll bump into people you'll get on with and nothing worse than a 3rd wheel for some folks!

Must admit it would be a great opportunity to visit such a wonderful city and be on your own clock, though. No arguments over what to do/where to eat, etc. I'll be looking at the 25th-28th July and it's actually my Birthday on the 25th.

You have been posted on the July Whos In Town page.
Scroll down to your month and click it.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

If you don't see yourself, click your refresh or reload button
Your browser sometimes loads pages from your local cache and
you don't get the latest update.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.

Set yourself up with your own T&T or Toke and Talk, where you pick the coffeeshop
(your favorite) and the date and time, I will post it and you wait for folks to
show up, if they do you'll have a T&T. If they don't you still get to enjoy your
favorite coffeeshop!

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.

Any nice new menu pictures you can get will be much appreciated.
Always ask first, better told no than thrown out.

It’s great for all the reasons above!

You will love it!

I really wouldn't be. In my experience you start or people start with you 10x the number of random conversations in coffeeshops (and elsewhere too) when you're solo than when you're with others. It helps if you take something to do, like a book or two you're been meaning to read or whatever, just so you have a fall back, and have a reasonable plan for where you want to go each day rather than just bumbling about, but last time I was there on my own I think I talked to more complete strangers, most of whom started talking to me rather than the other way around, than I have on many a trip with a mate or two.

In coffee shops single travelers quite often end up sharing a table. I’ve met some really cool people from just saying “hey bro mind if I sit here to roll?” 2 hours later I’m going to someone’s mothers house for Sunday dinner!
