Re: Latest Menu Posts

Post by Lemming »

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this debate so far. All good points and all noted.

Macky - not sure I understood all of that but sounds like exciting developments so good luck and please keep in touch.

All - Can you put your thoughts into guidelines please? I suggested a few ideas above. What do you think of those? If we can define lines that should not be crossed then it might serve us well in the future too.

Sharing - I think this is important. As I said above, I think FBN should be able to use copies of menu pics with appropriate credits, as he usually does. It would be good to have confirmation from FBN, AudioKush and anyone else posting menu pics that a mutually beneficial arrangement is in place.

Just to put all of this in context, over the more than 20 years that I've been running the ACD I've seen countless similar sites come and go. In general it seems that the more commercial a site is, the shorter its life expectancy.

Only a few months ago I did a search around about 20 of the current coffeeshop sites. I was considering adding a link to the relevant page on each site to each of my coffeeshop pages. I was shocked to discover that most are zombie sites that haven't been updated for years. The only ones that appear to be growing are the general-purpose ones like TripAdvisor.

By far the biggest rival to the ACD is Google Maps. Since they started carrying coffeeshop reviews, ACD has stopped growing and even declined. I find this slightly irking because Google refuse to allow their AdWords on cannabis-related sites and do not link to sites like ACD from their maps. The ACD reached it's zenith in the early 2010s when over 5000 people visited every day. We now struggle to get 3000.

Ultimately Google control everything. Most visitors come via searches on Google (although not Google Maps). If you'd like to help then please include a link to the relevant ACD page when mentioning specific coffeeshops, towns, provinces, etc. on Facebook, Instagram, forums, etc.

Thanks
Lem

The very least AudioKush should do is offer reciprocal links back to ACD. It's only fair play.

Less of the boarders and watermarks. It shouldn’t overpower the menu. Maybe a small logo in the corner.

A link back to your own page is fine as long as that page also has a link back to ACD

Any menus posted in the forum can be used by fbn who will give credit for the use, you are also welcome to use fbn’s menus on your page but again you must give credit and link back to his page.

The suggestions above seem about right to me. DjShaggy's comments in particular are a nice concise encapsulation of the general feeling.

what do you think? Is the sharing happening? Can these menu pics be toned down as suggested?

Incidentally, do you realise that you can make a picture into a link?

I do not understand what is going on here. I am simply sharing content that is gathered around. If this not cool then I will take my content else where. We have tons of content and various smoke sessions with free giveaways from sponsors to share with y'all.

This is how we share menus. I do not need menus from FBN as we do our own content gathering on our own travels around the country.
I've stopped adding links and it is simply just the image now. :)
I have found several shops that I visit that have no representation on the forum, which has lead me to start new threads. I am helping generate convo's on here. I feel no harm is being done. Much love all! Hope to see you guys at a sesh soon.

hulldj wrote: Wed 8th Jan 2020 11:23 am AudioKush.. Hi and a belated welcome to the forum,

Enjoy your time here, share as we all have for many years, We love menu's and we love sharing the menus with anyone who wants to see them, We love stories and debates, we love new members such as yourself that has new and relevant content for the community as a whole to share. I don't just mean ACD, I mean the whole canna community that finds the information they want because of everyone giving the information for free. Stating copywrite on your images in a forum such as this was a bit of a douche move mate. Take the kudos you will get from such as myself that you had the balls to ask the budtender for a photo of the menu. I find it hard to see the menu and ask for my goods never mind trying to gibber out that I'd like to attempt a menu pic and asking for permission to do so. Lets see the love of sharing. Watermark your menu images with a logo and send them wild man! Share the love and see where it takes you.

Maybe shove us a link on your site, It's not like you haven't got the room .

Some nice Youtube content by the way.

Complain less... live... laugh... love and dance more.
Thanks for the response and feedback. It is much appreciate! We are very passionate cannabis activists from US that live in Nijmegen. My name is Russ, and I am the mod of this account. Our co-founder Zoe handles some of our other accounts.

In regards to the link of ACD on our site, that is something that could easily be arranged. @lemming, hit me up and we can figure something out that works for both parties involved.

Hi Russ + Zoe :D I think that's a decent thing adding a link for ACD on your own site, so that's a thumbs up from me
I like the extra content you have brought to the site so far and all the extra menus(if you have toned them down to an acceptable level/less border and smaller link) that are being added by yourself and FBN and having a member who is offering smoke/pressing sessions is only a good thing for ACD members if in town when one is on, especially for someone like me who is a rosin lover, so keep it up :)

Hello AudioKush, aka Ross & Zoe 8) when you first posted I also thought you were a spammers, only because of the number of consecutive posts, but your cool and because of your input with ghost I’ve learned more about pressing weed. Welcome to ACD
