In Turkey, they currently license opium growers to supply pharmaceutical firms. Why don't we do the same in Pakistan and/or Afghanistan?

That way the poor famers could get paid for their crops, and we cut out the Taleban or other drug dealers.

Note, the opium farmers currently get paid a paltry amount, so the pharmaceutical firms would easily be able to match what the Taleban pays them.

It is finally legal there but only for medical purpose. See this news https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/709472 ... bis-market. Probably, every country wants to get the benefit of this high-profit industry.
