Forget about the hypocrisy of being a, if not 'The' primary exporter of medicinal hemp in the world, yet declaring cannabis to posses 'no medicinal value'; but to actively withhold the medicine from the mother, knowing full well you were resigning a child to suffer and possibly die thanks to draconian policies, is just fucking immoral!

Epileptic boy will have supply returned

Give it to him as quickly as possible to avoid a possible national debate, or worse, if he had died...

...Anyway, it seems this one case might have a happy ending!

Strictly speaking, as far as I'm aware the medical cannabis the UK produces has no or negligible THC content, and that doesn't work with this lad. I might be wrong, as I find the entire topic too depressing to research in detail, so perhaps someone with more knowledge will comment.

So, as far as i know, and i'm no expert, is that the majority of the UK export cannabis is sold as 'Sativex', which is primarily prescribed for MS sufferers, not epilepsy right now, unfortunately. According to Wikipedia, each dose of Sativex contains 2.7 mg of THC, and 2.5 mg of CBD... The Oil the kid was prescribed was 'Tilray' Oil, and according to their website their Tilray 2:100 Oil has 2 mg/ml THC and 100 mg/ml CBD...

Assuming the THC is a necessary ingredient for this medicine to have maximum effect, and that CBD is the major catalyst for the child's recovery, then i'm guessing Sativex probably wouldn't have such a miraculous impact as the Oil seems to have?!?

As far as actual figures, it's quite hard to find out exact numbers regarding the THC levels of the UK's legal grows, but i found a article with the 'director of botany' at a covert GW Pharmaceuticals facility which stated, "...around half of the 20 tonnes of dry weight cannabis grown here every year would produce no high in recreational users."

...So, in conclusion, maybe half, probably more, will get you baked!?

the Stanley brothers developed the strain Charlotte's Web, that has no THC at all and works GREAT for epilepsy. The video of the young patient remarkable recovery caused a surge in legal medical marijuana states in the "usa"

The whole thing was mad, the child has a prescription for the stuff written by a doctor based in Northern Ireland where he is from. Would a doctor not be delisted for prescribing something that is technically illegal?

Apparently, doctors can prescribe treatments that are not available in ones own country, "...at GP's own risk".

...Makes sense, i suppose... I never bat an eyelid at someone being sent to the US for some treatment or another, that is sadly unavailable in our cash-strapped system.

That's interesting I've heard of people go to the US when treatment isn't available but usually as it requires a machine or a specialist surgeon vs requiring an illegal drug.

At least the whole case seems to have moved the debate on in the UK. In the Republic of Ireland there are now 7 licence holders for medical cannabis and it all started similarly with a sick child and a desparate mother on TV.

Seriously this shit is retarded. I can't believe they would do that to a poor young boy.. What the hell did he do? Its only a given right to be able to take something that helps you come on!
