Used Star Bikes on a trip in March
http://www.starbikesrental.com/index.html 9E a day, next to Centraal Station

Tried to use Recycled Rentalas on my last trip, but the gate was closing as we got there :x
http://www.recycledrentals.com/ 5E a day with a 50E deposit, on the Spuistraat about 7 mins from CS

There is also a bike & scooter rental a few doors down from Recycled rentals that we used last month. I believe it was like 11E a day, but the longer you rent it the cheaper it gets.

Peace,
Balou

I usually have a bike for the duration of my stay so I tend to just use whoever is closest to where I'm stopping.

Where will you be staying?

The Mac bike @ Waterlooplein 311a looks like the closest, unless theres somewhere independant nearby that isn't showing on google maps.

When I emailed them they say they have several types of bikes but most have back pedal braking. I rode a fixed wheel once in college and damn near broke my neck, never again!

The one from Star had brakes and 3 speeds. I thought you were referring to Recycled, which have brakes and one speed.

yeah i was originally talking bout recycled, so the bikes they have do have brakes? i think ive confused myself :? i thought you said that you emailed them (recycled) & that most of their bikes have back pedal braking, is this the same as fixed wheel?, where the pedals keep turning until bike stops? whatever happens im gonna need a bike but would prefer a normal 1 instead of 1 which kills me
thanks for your help balou.

+incase for some reason i dont use recycled, whats the deal with star, do they want credit card & if not whats the deposit?, & do you have to take passport along?

Just to add.

Growing up and only knowing hand brakes on a bike in the UK, I'm completely converted to the back pedal braking system bikes in A'dam. It's the best thing ever in a place like A'dam and you'll pick it up in seconds, no worries.

Just avoid cycling parallel to tram line rails, for fear that your wheel gets locked in them, and speed up and cycle faster before you reach arched bridges to effortlessly glide over them.

I confused myself! So yes Recycled has mostly fixed wheel. Star requires ID and CC auth. Bike Citywill take a E50 deposit and ID, they are a little farther out by Paradox.
