Can anyone recommend a few good coffeshops near Vondelpark?
I'll be staying at Hotel Inner, which is pretty close to the Van Gogh museum and also very close to Vondelpark. I heard Tweedy is a good nearby shop, can anyone else recommend a few others? Also, do most coffee shops have bongs (err water pipes) in the stores for use? Just wondering, it'll be my first trip to Amsterdam and most likely the first of many to come!

Noon is not far from the Rijksmuseum. You can look at the map on the site below and then look at reviews here on ACD. The headshops won't have bongs for you to use, they only sell. Most coffeeshops will have a bongs for you to use. No need to say water pipe, this is not a headshop in the States! http://www.amsterdamhashmap.com/

my suggestion would be to go to de rokerij or rookies in leidseplein, roll some joints for the road and then walk to the main entrance and into the parkGeneralGreens wrote:I'll be staying at Hotel Inner, which is pretty close to the Van Gogh museum and also very close to Vondelpark. imo the best area for picnics and smoking is labelled Speelweide ... the area just on the other side of the water to the north of speelweide is good too

I can't recommend anything near there since I've only been once, but what I do suggest more than anything else is get on tram with 7 euro (per person) and ask politely for a 24 hour pass and a map. There is only 1 or 2 lines you need to memorize. The one that is close to your hotel. Don't worry if your get confused by the way the liens run, if you get lost, simply get on 1 of the MANY lines that go back to central station, and hop on the correct line that gets you back near your hotel.
This way you can visit all the coffeshops you WANT instead of all the coffeshops near your hotel!

And I do plan on heading into Central Amsterdam but nearby accommodations will be nice for when I first get there and it'll always be convenient to know.

Forgot, everyone in the world is comfortable riding a bicycle.

I agree. I'm glad I didn't rent a bike on my first trip, to each his/her own.redeyezman wrote:Forgot, everyone in the world is comfortable riding a bicycle.

I agree with Marco, but would say Tuintje is pricey, especially for the area. Also Tweedy is good, if very quiet and with a smallish menu.Marco wrote:tweedy is pretty good. Also down the Overtoom Tuintje did me right when i lived there.

Compromise and check out Blue Lagoon on Overtoom, which is betweeen the 2.
Have a good trip.

boerejongens and bij are a ten minute walk from the overtoom/amstelveeg corner of vondelpark, the best coffeeshops in the area if not amsterdam.

Kashmir is not so far away and keeps you on that side of town rather than heading over to the Leidseplein area. From Overtoom, take Jan Pieter Heijestraat about 10 minutes from the park...or less?

Since it's your first trip, I would take advantage of the trams. You need to find your way around the city and the trams are the best for doing that. The first trip should be for seeing as much as possible and the trams are much faster than a bike. If you're like me, the only thing I remember how to do on a bike is fall off. The locals on a bike in Amsterdam are pros; let the amateur beware!Balou wrote:I agree. bij and boerejongens are quite close to the west end of the park.
