Early morning recommendations

Post by poopenloopen »

I have an early morning 4-hour layover and was hoping to find a place that is open around 7 am, the current plan is to take the train to central and then it seems that Coffeeshop Central is the only one that could be open at 7 am where I can grab a quick smoke and head back quickly. Are there any other recommendations that I can swing by to make it a quick one?

It's called Amsterdamned C.S. now.
Barney's C.S. also opens at 7:00, and the Greenhouse Lounge opens at 9:00. De Groon opens at 8:00

Check out the Amsterdam map, click on a C.S. and it will give you all the info you need.

Pretty sure that has changed, there was at least a period where they didn't open before 9, went there disappointing a few time... Resin is open at 8, it has become our new go-to morning CS when getting in early and a few other regulars have started frequenting it also (FOD, Marok21 and IIRC RoMo comes to mind).

You can take the 197 bus from Schiphol straight to 1e Hulp, which is generally my early coffeeshop of choice, and popular with the layover crowd. You can't smoke in Central any more, and has has been mentioned, Resin doesn't open till 8. The Bulldog is open, and just about bearable at that time of day, but 1e Hulp is by far the better shop for atmosphere and product. And there's a cat.

Wow, wow, there's also a cat at Resin. It's no Rizla, but it's super fluffy, tiny and curious, which is soooo cute...

It is a bit of a pain that they don't open before 8 if you are in super early, but for us it is seldomly a big problem as the first flight in lands a bit past 7 anyways and it has to be an almost miraculous taxi, sprint through pier / terminal / customs and trip to Centraal for you to make it to Resin much before 8 anyways, and a B&F at Central CS before going there is only a marginal detour there and allows you to fill in a little time before they open while checking for good VfM hash at Central

Agreed that 1e has Resin beat on the parameters you mention, even after the refurbish, we don't hate that as much as others; the ambience hasn't change that much in our view and the clientele hasn't worsened (nor has it improved  ).

However, for accessibility and the fact that you can hit a bunch of center shops when they open at 9 or 10 after having a nice and relaxed morning at Resin, is an advantage they have. It is also very roomy and very chilled in the morning, with relatively good quality and VfM hash, given location etc. So at least a good and central alternative to 1e (that would also be our go to if it was more conveniently located with respect to usual locations for check in at accommodation, . bike rental and other things).
