Mellow Pages
Mellow Pages
The Smokers Guide to Amsterdam by Kip, was the original guidebook to Amsterdam's coffeeshops. There were at least six different editions over the course of several years and then the book and Kip suddenly disappeared. I know that he was getting some hassle from the publishers of Yellow Pages but, other than that, I have no idea what happened.
The paragraph above was from an earlier version of the ACD. I had a couple of brief emails from Kip in 1998 and 1999 but, as far as I know, that email address no longer works.
Mellow Pages was a wonderful little book. There was also a beautiful cartoon map of Amsterdam. Unfortunately I lost the first copy of the book I bought but subsequently got more editions, some of which were older. The only copy of the map I can find now is a rather beaten up one that I used in Amsterdam.
Here are some pics of the books that once appeared on the site:
I also just took this photo of the map. It's huge so you'll need to zoom in to see the detail. It's also got a few notes scribbled on it.

Re: Mellow Pages
An excellent guide to Amsterdam Kip's Mellow Pages was the very 1st guide book and also one of the 1st things i bought when i visited Amsterdam for the 1st time. That little blue book that came with that excellent detailed map and still to this day one of the best maps i have seen was a stoners dream when in town.
Here's a pic of the very 1st National Edition with a fat nug of something, sadly i do not have my copy of the map any more after lending it to a mate and never got it back but have been able to download a copy of Lemmings(thanks man ) This has got to be one of the best guide books i have seen and there have been plenty floating around over the years, top quality
Here's a pic of Bom Shakar Chai Shop
Here's the original Barney's when there was only 1 shop and you used to get a proper Irish Breakfast and some top quality smoke

Never saw the “Mellow Pages” but do have a copy of the “Dutch Hashcoffeeshop Tour” printed 1994 or1995
Shortly after that coffeeshops were prohibited from advertising and these books could be considered ads, I think

GrassHopper with its bright green neon lights drawing new arrivals to Amsterdam over to get as much of the vacation money as possible i wonder how many people have headed that way because of those lights and the name

Picasso Green
Picasso Gallery/Brown - when Picasso had 2 shops and one sold the greenery and the other sold the Hash , i used to love making these shops my 1st visit when arrived in town as you used to get a free breakfast with a purchase off of the menu, good times

Coffee Shop - Old Style - was directly opposite The Flying Dutchman on Martelaarsgracht near Cs. They used to have moroccan, afghan border, lebanese, turkish and nepalese. Their grass consisted of Dutch Skunk, Northern Lights, Thai and Columbian and were all reasonably priced

Re: Mellow Pages
There are few dates in the books but one mentions that it started in 1984. I think the first copy I bought in 1988 was the 5th edition but sadly I lost that. This is what I've deduced about the ones I still have:
2nd edition.
This one has black & white coffeeshop pictures and was the first to feature the cartoon map.
3rd edition.
Colour pictures. My copy has a black and white version of the map tucked inside it but I don't know whether it came with it.
4th edition.
1st (and only) national edition. This has black & white pictures.
6th edition.
Colour pictures.
As far as I know there were only ever 6 editions and the 1st national edition was the only one of its type.

Re: Mellow Pages
There's currently a listing on Amazon UK for a used copy of the 4th Edition
