... anybody got any, if so what of and where...
I got a self made (designed) black tribal piece to cover my appendix opperation scar... got it a while back, love it, love tattoos... want more. But, society frowns upon stocky men with goatie beards, shaved heads and tattoos... Part of me wants to say "Fuck Society" but then I'de just be what everybody thought I looked like.

I have a few.... one self designed... I'll post a pic when I have some time.
Society frowns on Hippy types with tattoos too!

When the going gets weird, the weird get going!
here we go.....i have ten total at the moment (many more to come as time and money allows).
in order i got them;
-large unique tribal piece, inner left calf
-"Believe in nothing" in a language designed by a guy for his thesis at Oxford ("believe in nothing" is the last line of my fav. quote from Dr. Timothy Leary)
-large Kanji that allegedly says "decide" on outer left calf.
-"Plastikman" (renown techno producer/dj aka Richie Hawtin) logo on outer left bi-cep
-old-skool "Phish" logo on top of left bi-cep
-large Celtic medallion on inner right calf
-Nautical star on top of right forearm (got this a a memorial to my grandfather who was a sailor during WWII and he had the samething in same spot, RIP Cecil. Upsets me a bit that tons of US teenagers are getting "star" tattoos that have lil to no meaning, and people assume mine is that kinda shit )
-Kid Koala comic character on left tricep just above elbow.
-quite large robotic DJ with turntables and bass cab on trippy psychedlic sprialling background
-tripped out metronome on inner left bi-cep.
I got pics somewhere so i will throw them up when i find them.
Obviously music is/was a huge influence on me and most of my tats have some sort of musical influence.
I'm a big guy and i think i wear them well and have lots of skin left so more tats are definitely in my future regardless of societies perceptions. Here in the states soooooooo many young kids are getting elaborate tattoos so the stigma is quickly going away, but i still get lots of looks. I'm sure the combo of my large build (6ft 2, 260+ lbs), the tattoos, piercings, and dreadlocks to my ass, make me quite the site to those not used to such things
Used to have a bunch of piercing as well but got rid of most of them, just have "00" gauge plug in left ear lobe and "4" gauge plug in "conch" on right ear (conch is the inner cartilage part (if you pinch your ear just outside the canal, thats the conch)).

Maz', from the dreadlocks, can I assume you are black? I'm sorry if thats is too blunt but I was interested in the use of colour in tattoos on black skin as out of my black friends that have tattoos, they are only ever in black ink...?mazdog wrote:I'm sure the combo of my large build (6ft 2, 260+ lbs), the tattoos, piercings, and dreadlocks to my ass, make me quite the site to those not used to such things
Hope you don't mind me asking ?

PS: 260+lbs... have you been eating too many pies OR do spend a good deal of time at the gym...? (just to add to the mental image one has of another forum member).

no offense taken Rez....i appreciate bluntness, no time to beat around the bush here...
I'm technically a mullato (sp? shame i don't even how to spell it ) my mother is white (german/irish/british....a white american mutt) and my dad is black (errrr "Afro-American" for the politically correct). And yes i don't eat nearly as well as i should, and don't workout nearly enough (actually starting to workout lately, as the realization that a heart attack and or diabetes are probably in my future if i don't get into somewhat better shape).
back to tattoos....i am quite light-skinned so colors work ok on me. All the artist i've ever talked to about it say that skin is skin. Colors obviouly won't show on dark skin as well as light skin, but other than the tone there is no reason black people can't have color tattoos. They say that technique has more to do with it than anything.....if you so a shitty job the color will get blotchy and/ or fade prematurely. For me personally i hold most colors fairly well, except reds. And red seems to give a lot of people problems.
anything else?
also i found a link to a gallery of my tattoo pics. These are older pics taken with a crappy cam so excuse the lackluster resolution.

I have 2 tatt's. The first is a pot leaf, made of different shades of green, on my right chest. I got this one in '98 to celebrate 30 yrs of weed smokin. My second one is on my right shoulder, in color, of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and Fat Freddy's Cat, truckin down the street. I got this one cause I'm a huge Freak Bros fan and collector. Peace.

... as I'm preparing for my next tattoo I thought I'de document my progress with a few pictures... I also thought this would be the appropriate thread and when reading Mazdog's reply above a suddenly noticed that I didn't respond with a thank you for the reply to my colour question ... so, Cheers Maz'mazdog wrote:back to tattoos....i am quite light-skinned so colors work ok on me. I'm designing my next tat which will go on my back between my shoulder blades... you'll see the size and type of tat it will be from the pics below. I like black tribal work (even though it has become somewhat of a fasion accesscary (sp) these days)... For me it has to have meaning and I have to design it, all of it, from scratch to finish... as I design it I'll tell you what each part means and the completed tat will be called "mine about me"...

Cheers Maz... watch for updates... I hope to have it done in the next month or two... due to the size and some reverse shading detail it will actually take 3 or 4 sessions in the seat.... plus a shit load of pain and money. All worth it though.

... 5, 5 hour sessions. omg
I've been quoted £60 per hour from one artist with an estimate of £600.
I'm heading into town to visit THIS artist... I've seen his work and it is awesome... I've not had a quote from here yet but once my artwork is in one piece and ready to be sized and stenciled I'll be making further enquiries and maybe a booking...
