Bears guarded B.C. grow-op: RCMP

Police in southeastern B.C. have raided a marijuana grow operation that was apparently guarded by black bears.
Officers conducting the raid two weeks ago at Christina Lake found a property with two residential buildings and a fenced-off grow-op with about 1,000 plants, police said Tuesday.
But they also found about 10 bears that the owner appeared to be using to keep people from stealing any pot plants, said RCMP Sgt. Fred Mansveld.
"[Officers] soon noticed the bears were docile and tame," Mansveld told CBC News. "One of them jumped on our unmarked car for a while. But it soon became apparent they were habituated to the grow operation."
It was evident the animals had lived on the property for some time, police said.
The woman accused of running the grow-op has been feeding the bears for years, one neighbour said.
Police are recommending that the woman face charges related to marijuana cultivation.
Conservation officers now have to decide what to do about the bears, which might have to be destroyed because they have become too used to human food and contact, police said.

Human fed bears are dead bears. What a stupid stupid stateme
Many years ago I worked on a forestry bridge crew. The camp cook made 6 or 8 pies a day. There were only 4 of us on the crew. He would put all the extra food in 5 gal buckets to feed his bears.
One day his favorite old black bear got in a big fight with a 4 or 5 year old Grizzly. Old Irish waded into the battle with a broom to break it up. Irish got a couple broken ribs from his fav bear.
Now if the FishCops had a guy like Irish working for them, he would build a trail of pies deeper and deeper into the bush to save those bears. But not so with the highly educated game wardens of today; their answer is to shoot them. Anything that takes away from their budget for jetboats atv's and the latest fancy truck is dealt with that way.
A similar story (from 5 or 6 years back) where the FC's killed 8 or 10 Moose (some with calfs) that wandered into town during a winter with more than usual snow. If they had a couple cowboys with ropes and a large pen with a few bails they could have saved those animals but NO a bullet is better and the FishCops know "best". That year a bullet ended up in a balcony after it passed through or missed the moose. They then started shooting them with marbles until they got the poor animal in a less public place to kill them. Most of these university trained biology students are afraid of wildlife. These guys and gals are chicken shit, scared what ever you want to call them. Protectors of wildlife they are not.
Some citizen needs to show up there everyday and shoot those guard bears with marble guns and bear bangers (disguised as FC's and Police) that would have those layabouts back in the bush and afraid of those that would threaten them.
Bear dogs would put the run on them if we can't find a pie man to lead them away to safety. Even shoot the most crippled and old Bear in front of the rest would probably work. But cruel too cruel... We all know the Wildlife officials will round them all up and kill them because they don't care about wildlife. NOT if they always take the cheapest and chickenest solution of Shoot Shoot.
This issue is bound to be made in to a reality show. So BEWARE FC's you will be demonized forever if you kill all these animals.
My trapper friends would do a better job. They released cougar and wolf from their snares by putting a blanket over them then slipping their hand under to cut the cord with snips. These guys are brave. You will never hear of a FC risking themselves like that. The trappers released those animals because the cougar was a protected species and the wolf had hair rubbed off its back and was worthless. Boo FishCops boo.
You can toke in the shower with the magical Medicine stone in the middle.
