Europe still got border like i sAYED b4 aint like the one in AMERICA!
Ivvvv googled crossing european border wit rented car.... good chance you get ask to stop wit an RV at each border cuase they ll know its rented just by looking at license plate!

here what i found::

In most cases border-crossing in Europe is a quick and hassle-free process. Although potentially you're subject to passport checks and searches of your person and vehicle upon crossing a border, often you can zip across the borders of Northern European countries without even slowing down. Sometimes you'll be required to slow down and stop before the guards simply wave you through. A circular sign reading "Douane Zoll" is a signal that you must stop. Most likely you'll just queue-up in your vehicle, wait a minute or two, hand each passenger's passport to the guard when you reach the station, flash a smile, wait a moment until the guard returns the passports, and proceed forward a couple hundred meters to the border station of the next country (where you'll repeat the process).

I see some of you crossed the borders by train. Anyone had any difficulties, like control in the station near the border or check-up in the train or something?
Because I'm planning on going to Dam early in september, and I'd like to take a 'souvenir' back home to Belgium :)

Read the threads mate, you take a chance you know that, how much is your souvenir worth to you, you might be jack the lad dont give a shit and have a laugh, but you might be chairman of the police appropriations sub committee on you local council, ooh red faces :oops: :oops: .
Seriously Gerd it's a gamble. Some of us probably do stuff like that all the time. I dont know if the border/customs profile passengers but you be sure they know their jobs and have seen it all. Anyway man have a good trip. I'll be there myself in a couple of days and coming back by train :) , will I bring anything? Probably not as I shall be with the Lady and she don't do hassle :)
What a long strange trip it is.

Yup, but not frequently. My experience is mostly with crossing the German border. I've noticed a few instances where the Border Police came on board, and if you looked the part, they would first check the passport and then do a quick pat-down search. Only time I saw someone detained was because they didn't have a passport.

The other thing I have noticed when crossing into either Germany or Belgium (by train) is that during the week, I don't see the border police as ofter as the weekend, almost never. So, IF anyone decides to bring back a souvenir, do it during the work week rush hour. Blend in better with daily commuters.

FYI, for drivers in in Europe, yes there are no longer borders. However, national customs police can now stop any car or truck, anywhere. In France you see them searching cars and trucks from time to time, all over.

Personally, I think two older guys will be fine.
