12 Bands Perform to the Rhythms of Marijuana Legalization in Chile

SANTIAGO – In an important week for the proponents of the legalization of cannabis in Chile, thousands of people attended Monday the fourth edition of the festival “Legalize.”

“Legalize” is an international fair on the medicinal and recreational use of marijuana.

Artists of different genres lent their voices to the popular clamor arising from the public requesting a more permissive legislation for cannabis at Espacio Broadway in the Chilean capital.

The first half of the musical extravaganza passed with relative calm with the Chilean groups showcasing their music to the crowd.

The band Aguaturbia played, with the unmistakable resemblance of its singer’s voice to that of Janis Joplin, and the rapper Portavoz, who introduced political criticism and funk-laden lyrics.

Once the psychedelic rock band Los Jaivas got going the atmosphere in the open enclosure intensified with Legalize calling for the lawful authorization of the cannabis plants Sativa and Indica.

The son of the legendary Bob Marley and the former band of the musician played to the popular rhythms of “One Love,” “Lion in the Morning,” “This Love.”

Jorge Gonzalez, former singer of the rock band Los Prisioneros, played a selection of songs from the band that made history in Chile in the 1980s.

“Niño soldado” (Child soldier),”Vergüenza” (Shame) and “Estampida” (Stampede) were the songs that were selected to thrill the crowd just before playing “Cannabis,” a song more in tune with the theme of the festival.
