Perfect strain for playing poker

Post by joossy »

Can anyone suggest a perfect strain from dam for playing live poker?

Something not to racy that will be calming & patient without being to mongy but quite observant too....Any suggestion will be helpful 8)

I would suggest one of the following...

Golden Haze
Super Silver Haze
Super Lemon Haze

Not too overpowering, great taste, and doesn't hurt your concentration too much.

Thanks for the suggestion, are the hazes going to be suitable just sitting down and not doing much? I seem to remember super lemon haze having me flying at 100 miles an hour, i was so high i couldn't stop moving about! :D

I'd think the hazes would be too "racy." Jack Herer might be a good one.

Unless you're playing for fun, or with money you don't care about losing, I would say that weed and poker is losing strategy long-term.

Yeah those could be good. JH just popped into my head as I remember being quite focused and relaxed at the same time. It's also not typically the strongest.

Where you looking to play? Casino or just with friends?

I play live poker 2-3 nights a week here in london, and when I was in dam a few weeks ago with 7 other friends, we took a briefcase of chips with us and just played together..on the ferry and a few times in our hostel bar..as the only casino I could find where they have live poker is Holland Casino but it looks like tournies mostly wasnt sure if they did cash games so we jus took our chips..

At the casino. They do cash games as well as tournies, they play 2-2 and 5-5. dont think cash games get going until 9-10pm weekdays but allday on the weekends

So did you win any games with your friends? what were you smoking

Ah cool, Ill make sure I check out the casino next time, 2/2 sounds good!

Yea I finished about €50 up :D . My whole 'dam trip was basically funded through my poker winnings from the few weeks before I went haha

Well we were smoking all sorts... with a group there's always joints of different strains being passed around...we even bought one of those mega-sized cones..and had about 7 different strains in it..lol

Trying to think specifically though...when we arrived in 'dam first stop was voyagers for some super lemon haze as well as the cheese they have, then we played for a couple of hours in the hostel bar until our room was ready. We did attempt to keep all of our bags so we could keep track of what we were smoking...but in the end there were just too many bags to carry around! I guess you would be looking for a more indica based strain when playing/smoking in the evening so you can just sit and chill...but then I find there is the danger of being too relaxed...and then deciding to do something crazy like raising all in with suited low connectors or something :D

A good quality Moroccan hash and a pot of fresh black coffee. That's how I roll

Best way for you to know is to try it with friends. Do it just for fun and no money involved yet.

This.

Don't drink, don't smoke, don't do anything mind-altering when gambling.

If I knew there was a table of stoned poker players, I'd be falling all over myself to get a seat so I could take all your money...

I used to go on cruises and pay off the cruise fare playing poker - first two nights you'd get people who have only seen poker on TV, get drunk and sit down at the tables...an hour or two later, they didn't know what hit 'em...

But if you're going to insist that something mind-altering won't affect you when playing a game that requires a lot of thought...daytime smokes like orange bud might be what you're looking for...
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

You do realize those 2-2 games and the 5-5 are no limit games?
They do run a 2-4 table but it is pretty agressive with most rounds bets capped.

I like a hybrid best as it can relax you while still staying alert.

Interesting question. I've played a lot of poker in the dam but never live. Just too easy to take a laptop and play online while using the coffeeshops wifi.

I'd suggest something about 80/20 sativa biased. I like 50/50 myself. Something like a nice fresh NYCD would do it for me for online poker.

I wouldn't go for a 100/0 sativa unless it was a mild one as I don't want to think too much while playing poker and I do want to be able to concentrate on just a few small things.

Being the right kind of stoned in a live game could be a real advantage on some levels as long as you have very good discipline about entering the pot in the first place. I've found myself to be a lot more sensitive about reading situations correctly when stoned in the right manner. The discipline comes in where you might need to avoid being reckless due to feeling 'happy' due to the weed.

As long as you can be concious of all this I think a stoned player can be a more insightful player.
How much did you produce?
