train is just a few quid, takes 15-20mins. hotel old 1/4 is sound, smoke friendly on the busiest street in RLD. when you come out in front of centraal station, warmoesstraat is at 10 o'clock (damrak being 12). enjoy 8) 8)

hi
another member from the cold wet *snowy* west midlands
re your trip, yes take the train, 1st time we went we caught a taxi (very silly i know now) it cost us about 40 euro about 5 years ago,
since then we have always took the train
the ticket machine is self explanitory and really cheap, yes just a few euros, see if you can get a few before you get to the machines as we went everywhere for change and this was a task in itself, ended up buying the sun for 2 euros !!
make sure you get on the right one as thats not self explanitory and never any staff down on platforms.
we are there end of feb
never stayed at old quarter
we stay at the vijaya, but heard it is smoker friendly

enjoy your trip

Hey Benny C
Welcome and enjoy your trip.
If you can't get change for the ticket machine you can always get a train ticket at the left hand kiosk, the staff at the kiosk are helpful with which platform you want also.
Have a great trip and take plenty of layers, it's cold out there at this time of the year. And i'm not talking cold like it is here today in sunny west midlands but cold as in "to the bone".

oh well gives you more reason to go in the coffee shops to keep warm eh?
Need a check up from the neck up.....

Welcome. I'm also a newbie and will also be in 'Dam this weekend. Have got about 12 Euros in change left over from Ibiza last year. That's my train sorted. :)
