For those of you in the Denver, go vote. Even this little concession is a nick in the armor of primeval laws.

DENVER THE LATEST CITY TO WEIGH PROPOSAL TO EASE MARIJUANA LAWS

DENVER ( AP ) -- The nickname Mile High City could soon have an entirely new meaning.

Denver voters will decide Tuesday whether to make it legal for adults to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. Seattle, Oakland, Calif., and a few college towns already have laws making possession the lowest law enforcement priority.

Supporters in Denver have launched a "Make Denver Safer" campaign that contends the change will help curb domestic violence.

"There's no doubt that if people choose to use marijuana instead of alcohol we would not have the same number of problems," said Mason Tvert, the 23-year-old campaign organizer.

The argument has angered local officials

"It's a deceptive and deceitful campaign," said Councilman Charlie Brown, who spent a recent Saturday night ripping the signs down from parks and medians - where they are banned - and throwing them in the garbage. "Domestic violence is not on the ballot. Alcohol is not on the ballot. Marijuana is on the ballot."

A "yes" vote probably won't make much difference. The city attorney's office said Denver police will simply file marijuana possession charges under state law, which carries up to a $100 fine and a mandatory $100 drug-offender surcharge.

"The initiative isn't going to change the way we do business," said Vince DeCroce, director of prosecution for the attorney's office.

From 2002 to August of this year, some 6,800 people in Denver were charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, according to the city attorney's office. Of those, only 74 were charged under the city ordinance.

Critics of the ballot measure are wary of what a "yes" vote might do to Denver's reputation.

"People will flock to Denver to use marijuana," said Jeffrey Sweetin, head of the Rocky Mountain Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Even if possession of one ounce is legal, people would still have to illegally buy the drug, Sweetin said, and "people don't realize all that money goes to organized crime."

Thing is, he doesn't think he is lying. To him and his DEA cohorts anyone peddling marijuana is part of a conspiracy, and as a conspiracy falls under the title "Organized Crime". Forget the fact that the rest of the world views that statement as the Mafia, or that the Mafia has only a minor role in weed distribution in the states. It really is funny listening to these DEA tools speak about the horrors of the devil weed. They still claim it's dangerous to our health, and that it holds no medical purpose... yet I can walk into a deli and buy a 12 pack of booze and a carton of cigarettes without being hassled. Both tobacco and alcohol being 100,000 times more dangerous than herbs. The only thing cannabis is dangerous too is the bottom line of Dupont, the oil companies, and the synthetic drug companies.

I took a course at my university that explained the nature of hype. Basically, if you feed people the same BS long enough they will believe it as truth regardless of evidence to the contrary.

Such is the nature of government types. Despite the fact that for the last 13 years the American president has been a one time pot smoker, pot smokers make it to the top levels of professional sports (we know so as some fail their piss test), become doctors, business leaders, good family types and yes some even become policemen who smoke on the sly (BTW- San Diego police do not have to take piss test - go figure ;)) there are those in government who insist that only low life losers smoke pot.

Government types will insist marijuana has no medical value yet the FDA (Doctors who work for the government) has approved Marinol (THC) as a legal drug. To pass the test for the FDA (Doctors) a drug must be considered both SAFE and EFFECTIVE.

As far as crime is concerned, make marijuana LEGAL and links to illegal sellers will be broken for good. Example: the end of prohibition in the states.

I'm sure a few government types lurk on this message board from around the world. So read my post here and ask yourself is this fact or fiction!
My thoughts are free.

Well, Initiative 100 was passed in Denver making legale possession of up to an ounce in Denver. Right on. Now, a few thousand more city laws like that and maybe we reach critical mass. Well, it's worth dreaming.
