Lemming's Traditional Pictorial Travelogue of 4-20 2014
Re: Lemming's Traditional Pictorial Travelogue of 4-20 2014
Monday 21st April 2014
Breakfast today is in a new place called Vinnies Deli next to Dampkring 2. Very nice.
From Haarlemmerstraat we cut through to the Brouwersgracht.
Prinsengracht from Brouwersgracht
137
My first time in this shop.
We're gathering for a possible boat trip but the weather today isn't as good as previous days.
There has been a rain shower and it's a bit cloudy.
Then the message comes through that EB has cancelled the idea.
Discussing our purchases we discover that we've all gone for "Nevil's Haze".
Here we go again.
I unload Trashcanman's stash from last night onto the table for everyone to roll up (thanks mate!).
What with that and all of the Neville's, there's plenty to consume!
The Volcano is also pressed into service to vaporise some of the weed mountain.
It hasn't rained for a while but it's still a bit overcast.
Nevertheless, I've always found the Brouwersgracht to be a particularly attractive canal.

Someone suggests we go to Utopia next.
Rather than go directly, we elect to take the scenic route through the Jordaan.
We set off up the side of 137 on Willemsstraat, across a nice bridge and onto Marnixstraat.
This takes us past 't Keteltje and Bronx.
I grab some pictures of them for my collection. (One day I must find a way of publishing all these coffeeshop pics I've taken over the years.)
Along Marnixstraat a bit and turn down Tuinstraat, passing back through the Jordaan.
Tuinstraat
Crossing the Prinsengracht we catch a nice view of the Westerkerk.
Along Prinsenstraat, Herenstraat and Blauwburgwal over Lijnbaansbrug and through the narrow Lijnbaanssteeg alley.
As we cross Spuistraat I spot this sign in Abraxas Too window
So maybe it is called Abraxas Too after all (see Friday 18th above).
Through Korte Lijnbaanssteeg and onto Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.
Church of Scientology of Amsterdam
Utopia
Utopia is able to open before 6pm today because it's a bank holiday.
We carry on from where we left off in 137 - massive consumption!
4:20 in Utopia
It's been another excellent session with everyone in Utopia but now J and I leave the crew behind to catch a tram to Alexanderplein by the Tropenmuseum and explore Oosterpark.
Oosterpark
From the other end of Oosterpark we catch another tram to the Vondelpark area.
A quick look at the posh shops on Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat and then we catch yet another tram for the short distance to Albert Cuypstraat.
I'm finally in de Graal!
I've been meaning to get here for years. This time it's open and we're in. What a lovely place.
We sit next to a PC to skin up so I take the opportunity to make a live post.
End the evening with everyone in the Nes as usual.
Part 4 soon ...

Already looking forward to next year's 4-20 travelogue and wildly anticipating the possibility of a Barcelona travelogue sometime later this year.AzLaker wrote:Dam Lemming, your becoming quite the photographer, some really nice pictures again this year, thanks for sharing.

Willjay, Vinyl, Treetop, Gapie, Toker31, Ftcarer, Notsofasteddie - Thanks for the encouragement.
Occasional Bowl - thanks for the correction. So that weed mountain had Kandy Kush in it too. No wonder that walk was so hazy!
AzLaker - we missed you.
Tuesday 22nd April 2014
The weather is better again today.
A bit unfortunate that the least sunny day of our stay was yesterday, the day we were supposed to be boating.
Oh well, can't complain really, we're having more than our fair share of sunshine for April.
So, we've got these tram passes. What should we use them for?
One of the most outlying coffeeshops in Amsterdam is Sensemillia by a big lake called Sloterplas, way out west.
Let's go there.
So, here we are.
Sloterplas
The coffeeshop shares a building with a bar and a Chinese restaurant. We sit outside with a beer overlooking the lake.
A short tram ride back a bit to Surinameplein and a stop off at Rembrandtpark.
Rembrandtpark
We walk through the park (it's quite big). Emerging at the other end we pass Happiness.
Tram from Mercatorplein to the Marnixstraat/Rozengracht junction.
Sound Garden
J wasn't with us when we visited here on Saturday so this is her first visit.
We sit outside and I skin up under the clear blue sky.
Walking into the centre through the Jordaan I take some more coffeeshop pictures.
Flower Power
Mr.K
On through de 9 Straatjes (9 Little Streets)
Herengracht from Hartenstraat
Until we reach Utopia to catch up with some other ACDers.
Jack Ganja and Scandalous Monk help me to see off Bifton in suitably stoned style as he is off home.
J and I have dinner on Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, behind the Leidseplein.
Bulldog
And then head for the Nes for our last night smoke out.
Nes
DRA and his Swiss Associate, Gapie and Occasional Bowl are here to help smoke up the contents of all of the bags in my pockets.
In conversation the subject of coffeeshop Funny People comes up.
I've never been there and it didn't have a good reputation as a coffeeshop.
Apparently it's now a smoker-friendly bar and, ironically, may actually be improved.
We have this crazy idea of going to check it out right now so off we set.
Walking down Warmoesstraat I grab a few nightime coffeeshop pictures.
Het Oerwoud
Greenhouse Effect. On the window of the coffeeshop it says "Joint venture with Hill Street Blues".
Hill Street Booze
We had assumed that, as a bar, Funny People would be open 'till at least one but at 12:25 it's already closed. So much for that idea.
Everyone decides to call it a night so we head off in search of a tram or night bus.
Grasshopper 1
Another shot of a coffeeshop at night. Not the greatest shop but very much aware that its life expectancy may be quite short.
Part 5 soon ...

Fantastic posting and photos as usual, Lemming. In my opinion (for what it's worth,) you are a great host/moderator for this forum. More details and photos of this trip soon, please!!!
I may be stoned, but don't take me for granite...
