In general, marijuana is prohibited in New Zealand. At the same time, it is still smoked, and the police often turn a blind eye to it. In many ways, this is probably because there is constant talk in New Zealand society about the need to legalize marijuana.

No, medicinal is and recreational is relatively soft-touch, but its not legal. They had a referendum in 2020 that sadly returned a no vote (like 51%-49% iirc).
