Oh, go on then

Post by HitTheNorth »

Heading over on the 18th to 21st August. Didn't think I'd make it this year but its on so phew.

Going solo again, loved it last year.

Things I want to do,
Begijnhof
That mouse house place
Also considering an afternoon in Haarlem maybe? Green grocers, willy wortels, regine, empire? I've not been since my first trip in the 90s so please, recommendations are most welcome
Try new smoker bars

Shops I'll be hitting,
Family First
Chapiteau
Oost
Stud
Catch 33
De Kade
Solo
Gelderse
Bagheera
Sativa
Some old faves and some new ones too

I'll probably do a live report again, helps you remember what you've been up to haha

Found out yesterday that my flight had been cancelled. They tried to put me on a later flight no chance! Changed it to an early morning flight so I get a few extra hours

Haarlem - from an afternoon in June;
- Empire I liked, the few seats outside just off the main street were really chill.
- WW Sensi makes a good final half way point on a circular tour :D Outside terrace and things to do.
- Maximillian & Greengrocers staff were both very pleasant, reasonable prices too.
- Birdys of course, had a really timeless feel, very nice place.

Thoroughly recommend the trip out there.

Awesome, thanks @Not_the_monk
I'd forgotten about Birdy, nice one.
I think planning a circular route is a good idea. Do most shops open at a reasonable time? I remember going to Leiden and nothing was open till 4pm

Yeah they seem to, I think we got there around midday - 1pm-ish on a Tuesday and everything was open. Its perfect for a very chilled out afternoon wander / minor shop crawl, we bypassed a couple of places like Takeaway, Regine & the other WW's just because of time & overstocking lol, but one simple circular route took us past almost every shop in the center with the exception of Birdy's which was well worth the deviation past the station.

Made some decent and some pretty average purchases there, but the prices were good and the establishments almost universally welcoming.

Heading back to Amsterdam in August!

Begijnhof and Mouse House are a must! Haarlem's cool too. Grote Markt and St. Bavo's Church are worth a visit.

Got your shop list on lock! Try some new strains at Family First.

Glad you sorted your flight! Extra hours in the Dam are always a bonus.
