Wietexperiment (legal weed) in the Netherlands +Reviews

Post by Marok21 »

Since 15.12.2023 the dutch goverment started an pilot project to offer legally grown cannabis in coffeeshops they call it "Wietexperiment".

10 municipalities are taking part in the pilot project:

Arnhem
Almere
Breda
Groningen
Heerlen
Voorne aan Zee
Maastricht
Nijmegen
Tilburg
Zaanstad

(source: https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpe ... -gemeenten )

In cities next to a border like Heerlen, Maastricht, Breda tourists are not allowed in the coffeeshops anymore :( well, even without that pilot project tourist weren´t allowed in Breda and Maastricht coffeeshops before... funny is that cities like Tilburg, Arnhem and Nijmegen are not affected by this regulation even though they are located quite close to the border...

At the 15.12.2023 two municipalities Tilburg and Breda started to sell that "legal weed". Since the 17.06.2024 the other municipalities started, too.

The cannabis is grown by 10 companies that have received a license to grow after a selection process from the state:

Linsboer B.V. (The Plug)
Cookies
Cannamax
Fyta Group
The Growery
Aardachtig
Q-Farms (QATI)
Holigram (Grassmeijers / Stichting Joinus)
Leli Holland (Village Farms)
CanAdelaar*

(source: https://cannabisindustrie.nl/de-tien-wi ... en-rijtje/ )

At the begining there is only weed/hash available from 3 companies: Aardachtig, Fyta and CanAdelaar. While I saw on the menu page that Coffeeshop Club 69
in Maastricht started to sell "legal weed" from a company called "Hollandse Hoogtes".

CanAdelaar offers so far only weed that made outdoor without lamps and in greenhouses.
Fyta and Aardachtig produce indoor and "organic". Aardachtig is as far as I know connected with "Bio Tabs" and Karel from Super Sativa Seed Club.

I also noticed that there are prices differences from shop to shop. Coffeeshop Toermalijn in Tilburg offer the cheapest prices that I seen so far. For example their
Bio RS 11 from Aardachtig cost 16,50€/1,5g and in most other coffeeshops it goes for 18€+/1,5g. Also the outdoor grown stuff from CanAdelaar was sold at Toermalijn for 6€/g while most other coffeeshops sell it for 8€-10€/g.

Sadly I didn´t tried much "legal" weed/hash so far but here are reviews of what I tried so far:

Traditional 30% hash (7€/g made by CanAdelaar from coffeeshop Toermalijn) - Sadly not really high quality. Well it wasn´t that bad but for a regular smoker it was simply a bit to light in terms of effect. Taste was pretty "light", too. The hash didn´t bubble when touch by the flame which isn´t a sign of quality. Well for beginners it´s good I would say because you can be pretty sure that it´s not contaminated.

Amnesia (4€/joint Gore Cut made by Fyta from Coffeeshop Grass Company) pre rolled Joint - I also wanted to try a "legal" joint and see how it is compared to the usual pre rolled joints which are mostly crap. Sadly it said on the label that there was only 0,3g weed in the joint and the rest tabacco. Well, I'm used to putting more into a joint but compared with the usual pre rolled joints that one was still pretty good. Even with only 0,3g in it it tasted more of weed
than most other pre rolled joints. Effect was also there.

RS 11 Bio (18€/1,5g made by Aardachtig from Coffeeshop Kruidentuin Nijmegen) - The weed had been sold in sealed glass jars with THC and CBD content and information about the date of harvest on it. THC content was 21% and 1,5% CBD if I remember right.
Smell was outstanding. Very clean on the nose very complex kind of kushy sour smell to it. Best batch of RS 11 that I had so far. Well I tried a few good examples in Amsterdam but that one from Aardachtig smelled by far the best. I could smell that it´s grown "organic" very natural so yummy 8) Also pretty sticky and fresh. Smell transferred well to the taste. Smooth to smoke with a resin ring. While it didn´t felt super strong in terms of effect but I smoked to much stuff before so I can´t really judge the real effects...
I also smoked a bowl of it later in a bong and damn what a nice intense clean taste

Sour Blast (12€/g made by Fyta from Coffeeshop Kronkel Nijmegen) - Its been sold in sealed 1 gram baggys with THC and CBD Content on it and a information when it was harvested and so on... Furthermore there is a QR Code for more detailed information on the test result. This Sour Blast was labeled with 25% THC and less than 1% CBD.
I opened the bag and I noticed immediately that sour smell I didn´t smelled since years  smelled really like East Coast Sour Diesel or Sour Power  exactly what I was hoping for :D
Nice look of the buds pretty sticky and fresh. Smell transferred pretty good to the taste... smooth to smoke and soft on the throat. Well I smoked to much stuff before to give a good opinion on the effect but it gave me a happy energetic high.

Like I said before I was really happy with that Sour Blast exactly what I was looking for and what I couldn´t find on the "regular" coffeeshop market anymore.

Second time:
RS 11 Bio (19€/1,5g made by Aardachtig from Coffeeshop Lucky Luke Arnhem) -
This time tested with 16,8% Thc content while on their menu it said 21% THC. Definitely a different batch. Smell was still pleasent and clean while not that intense than the last time. For only 16,8% Thc content this one had a lot of trichsomes on it.
Also well dried and cured. Taste was also "lekker" while also not as intense as the batch that I tried before. Overall still pretty nice weed and would been probably sold as "high grade" in coffeeshops for 15€+ but that batch before was outstanding.

Amnesia (16€/1,5g made by Aardachtig from Coffeeshop Lucky Luke Arnhem) - This one came with a tested Thc content of 18,7%. I wanted to test that classic Strain from them because Aardachtig seems to be connected with Karel from Super Sativa Seedclub and so they are probably connected with the creator of Amnesia from Hy-Pro.
Awesome strong clean Amnesia smell comes out of the glass jar. Smells very fresh kind of fruity as I know it from that strain. The bud was packed with crystals. Best Amnesia I have seen for a long long time. Very tasty as well and much smoother to smoke than usual Hazes nowadays. Good strong high with an effect on the body, too.

Overall I am pretty impressed by the quality of the weed from the wietexperiment especially the weed from Aardachtig is to my liking. You can smell and taste thats it´s really "Bio" grown. The first batch of the RS 11 was nearly perfect and the Amnesia was also top notch. The second batch from the RS 11 wasn`t as good but still high quality and clean in taste/smell and still ok priced.
What I also like is that they sell 1.5g jars of weed and not just 1g like the other manufacturers. I usually always got a big bud. With the other manufacturers, the buds are often quite small.

Also "Fyta" seems to have some great quality. They also produce Bio organic as far as I know. Sadly I didn´t tried much from them so far but the Sour Blast (12€/g) was so damn nice  . I didn´t find that terps for very long time in coffeeshops. So "lekker" sour like "Sour Power".
My mate tried their Fritter Licker weed ones which was the best weed for him on the trip. Also here pretty special terps.
Furthermore I heard from different people about a outstanding batch of "Ice Cream Cake" which was around at the begining of the year.

Only from CanAdelaar I am dissapointed. Well Unlike their competitors, they produce without lamps. I only tried hash from them so far so I can´t really judge them but heard also from others not so good things about them. I have to try some weed from the next time...

what I also have to say is that every weed of the wietexperiment that I tried so far was very well dried and cured which is rather the exception with normal coffeeshop weed.

I would be happy if someone has tried some of the regulated weed and would leave a little review here :D

A very thorough review there Marok, thanks very much for taking the time.

Do you think the Wietexperiment is working well? Are more locals buying the legal weed than the normal Coffeeshop weed?

I wonder when/if the Wietexperiment will get to Amsterdam. Very interesting.

Thanks again mate

I would say it works pretty good so far. The people I spoke to spoke very positively about the weed experiment. Of course there are also some who have not yet tried regulated weed or who simply want to stick with their source or support small growers. But on the whole the opinion is positive, I would say.

But it must also be said that the coffee shops are currently still allowed to offer their normal menu, too. I don't see a problem with weed because the quality offered has been very good so far. The variety of strains is also good and new strains are constantly being offered (especially with Fyta).

I'm not so sure about hash... the range is quite small and what I've seen so far (all from CanAdelaar) was rather low grade. I've also read reviews of hash from Fyta, which is probably better than that from CanAdelaar but still doesn't really come close to the hash that is currently on offer.

But that could still change...

When the coffee shops are no longer allowed to sell their old range, we'll see what happens. But it could very well be that hash smokers in particular will still buy on the black market.

But when it comes to weed, I think why should I smoke weed when I don't know where it comes from, whether it's clean or how it was grown when I can buy controlled, clean weed at relatively good prices. The only argument against it that I can understand is that because only grow licenses are issued to companies, the small growers are excluded. Also, if you get much better prices from your old source, I can understand that...

In Zaandam (10 minutes from Amsterdam) and Almere (20 minutes) there is also the Wietexperiment. You could drive there for a little trip and try some "legal" weed :D . It was actually supposed to take place in Amsterdam Oost, too but as far as I can remember it was never started.

Very useful info. Thanks Marok. I'd seen "legal" products from CanAdelaar, Fyta and Aardachtig on quite a few menus but it's great to read your reviews of them.
Much appreciated.

Coffeeshop John & Co and The Barbershop in Hellevoetsluis are selling legal weed too. Had the Amnesia from Barbershop grown by Aardachtig back in July and it was fire.

Really interesting stuff, thank you so much for sharing Marok. Sounds like for the most part the "experiment" is relatively positive. You make some great points both about the up and downsides, but ultimately while I can see an element of concern about almost monopolies pushing out small growers (as well as the hash issues which are definitely more complex), for consumers when you say "why should I smoke weed when I don't know where it comes from, whether it's clean or how it was grown when I can buy controlled, clean weed at relatively good prices." that really is a big benefit that probably outweighs anything else.

Going to be fascinating to see how things develop from here.

The Wietexperiment seems promising, with good quality weed from companies like Aardachtig and Fyta. But the hash, especially from CanAdelaar, isn’t impressing much yet.
